The one thing Nintendo Switch Sports Resort should leave behind is the original Nintendo Switch Sports’ pressure to log in before online customization rewards rotate away. Nintendo says the sequel will let players earn customization points in any sport and any mode, including offline play. That makes earning rewards more inclusive—but Nintendo has not confirmed whether items will still rotate or expire.

What the original game got wrong about customization

The criticism is aimed at the original game’s time-limited online Collections. As described in the October 4, 2026 Nintendo Everything article that raised this issue, Collections offered sets of 12 exclusive items, rotated weekly, and became unavailable after three weeks until they returned in a later rotation. The article also says local games did not earn points toward those items.

That setup could make cosmetic customization feel like a deadline: play online during the right window or wait for a reward to come back. The complaint is about how the system worked for players, not a confirmed statement of Nintendo’s design intent.

What Nintendo has announced for the sequel

Nintendo’s September 10, 2026 update says playing any sport in any mode earns Spocco Points, which players can exchange for character customizations. Because the announcement includes any mode, offline play can contribute to customization rewards. Nintendo also describes an offline Island Crown mode.

Nintendo’s US product page lists Nintendo Switch Sports Resort as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive scheduled for October 22, 2026. It describes 12 sports and character creation or customization for Sportsmates and Miis. Online features require a Nintendo Switch Online membership; Nintendo says it will provide online player-count details later.

Has Nintendo confirmed that timed rewards are gone?

No. Nintendo’s announcements establish that players can earn customization points through any sport in any mode, but they do not say whether every item will remain available, whether Collections or another rotation system will return, or whether rewards can expire. Offline progress addresses the original article’s complaint about online-only earning; it does not, by itself, prove the sequel has eliminated timed reward pressure.

What players should hope the full system includes

The most useful change would be to keep both kinds of access: let players build customization progress offline, and make rewards available long enough—or permanently—so missing a short rotation does not mean waiting for another chance. Nintendo has confirmed the broader earning route, but its published details do not yet establish whether rewards themselves will be permanently accessible.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is scheduled to launch October 22, 2026, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. Until Nintendo explains item availability and rotation rules, the fair conclusion is that it has addressed how players earn progress, but not confirmed whether it has removed customization FOMO.
