The system has since launched. Its headline changes include a larger 1080p screen, magnetic mouse-capable Joy-Con 2 controllers, 256 GB of internal storage and support for compatible Nintendo Switch games.
What changed with the Nintendo Switch 2?
Switch 2 keeps the hybrid-console idea of playing on a TV or using the system portably, but updates the display, controllers, storage and performance. Nintendo describes its processor as a custom NVIDIA chip.
- Screen: A 7.9-inch wide-colour-gamut LCD with 1920 × 1080 resolution, HDR10 support and variable refresh rate (VRR) up to 120 Hz.
- Controllers: Joy-Con 2 attach magnetically. In compatible games, each can be used like a mouse on a surface.
- Storage: 256 GB of internal storage, with some capacity reserved for system use.
- Ports: A second USB-C port on the top allows tabletop charging with the included adapter.
- Accessibility: Options include display-font and colour-tone adjustments, text verbalization and button customization.
What do the TV output figures mean?
Nintendo lists docked output of up to 4K and gameplay of up to 120 frames per second, depending on the game and compatible equipment. Those are not simultaneous maximums: 4K output is capped at 60 fps. Up to 120 fps applies in compatible circumstances at lower output resolutions.
When did Switch 2 launch, and what did it cost?
Nintendo announced June 5, 2025 as the launch date. The prices below are the suggested launch prices announced by Nintendo, not current retailer offers.

How do GameChat, GameShare and Virtual Game Cards work?
GameChat
GameChat supports voice chat and screen sharing, with optional video chat using a compatible USB-C camera sold separately. Nintendo’s launch announcement provided free access through March 31, 2026 and said a Nintendo Switch Online membership would be required afterward. Because that free-access period has ended, check Nintendo’s current Switch 2 information for the terms that apply now. Users under 16 need parental or guardian approval to start GameChat.

What the reveal established
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa described Switch 2 as “the next step in at-home gaming that can be taken on the go based on eight years of play and discovery that began with Nintendo Switch.” That is Nintendo’s positioning for the product; it is not an independent performance comparison.
