Nintendo Life’s August 2026 reader survey found that 91% of respondents had upgraded to Switch 2, with Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza and Pokémon Pokopia leading its most-played games. The results also show mixed storage ownership, more digital than boxed physical game purchases, and strong interest in a Kid Icarus return. These are responses from Nintendo Life readers—not estimates of what all Switch 2 owners think.
How to read the survey results
Nintendo Life published its results on October 3, 2026, after asking readers in August about gaming habits, Switch 2 and its software, game purchases, and how they follow Nintendo Life. The survey contained 64 questions. Questions were anonymous and optional, and most received between 4,000 and 12,000 unique responses, according to Nintendo Life’s results article. The original August invitation described the project as a check-in on Switch 2 after more than a year on the market.

This was a reader poll, not a representative survey of console owners or gamers. Nintendo Life does not provide a full dataset, weighting, or recruitment details in the accessible results text. Percentages below describe participating readers who answered each question; they should not be generalized to the wider gaming population.
Who answered, and how they play
Just over 45% of respondents were in the US, around 21% in the UK, and roughly a third elsewhere. Nearly 39% said they had at least one child living at home. Just over 5% described themselves as Nintendo-only gamers. Among other platforms, gaming PC was reported by 14%, PS5 by 13%, and PS4 by 11%.

Switch 2 ownership, games and features
Ninety-one percent of respondents said they had upgraded to Switch 2. Nearly 83% still had an original Switch in the household, while 3% of Switch 2 owners said they had never owned the original.
The three leading answers to the most-played-game question were Mario Kart World at 17%, Donkey Kong Bananza at 16%, and Pokémon Pokopia at 11%. They also topped the favorite first-party-published Switch 2 exclusives, with Donkey Kong Bananza ahead of Mario Kart World in that question; Splatoon Raiders ranked fourth. Seven percent said they had played none of Nintendo’s Switch 2 exclusives.
When asked which console features they liked, 37% selected 4K resolution and 20% selected GameCube access through Nintendo Switch Online. GameChat was the least-used Switch 2-exclusive feature, with 55% saying they had never used it. For Mouse Mode, 47% said they had never used it, and 19% named it as the least-used feature.
Classic-game apps in Nintendo Switch Online were not a frequent habit for many respondents. Among 5,316 votes, 11% said they played multiple times a week, 13% once a week, 30% once or twice a month, 28% less than once a month, and 18% never.

More than a third of respondents said they did not own a MicroSD Express card. Among reported card capacities, 256GB was most common at 29%, followed by 512GB at 20%; just under 10% reported a 1TB card. These figures describe respondents’ ownership, not a recommendation about what capacity to buy.
Four in five respondents described Switch 2 battery life as either good or average, in a near-even split. Almost 87% reported no hardware issues so far, and just under 2% said they had sent the console to Nintendo for repair. Motion blur and loose Joy-Con were the largest issues cited; just under 3% reported stick drift. These are self-reported experiences, not independent reliability testing.
In a controller-preference question, 50% chose the Switch 2 Pro Controller, compared with 29% for standard Joy-Con 2 and 15% for the original Switch Pro Controller. Nearly half—49%—rated Switch 2 eShop browsing good: 26% said excellent and 21% adequate.
