To let Netflix find a compatible TV or streaming device, open Settings > Netflix on your iPhone and turn on Local Network. Then connect the iPhone and receiver to the same Wi-Fi network and make sure the receiver is awake. This setting enables discovery; it does not make every smart TV compatible with Netflix casting.
How do I allow Netflix to find devices on my local network?
-
On your iPhone, open Settings.
-
Scroll to and tap Netflix.
-
Turn on Local Network.
-
Open Netflix again and check whether the receiver appears. Netflix says this permission lets the app find a Chromecast or TV on your local network. Netflix’s cast-discovery instructions also require iOS 16 or later for casting from an iPhone or iPad.
Why won’t my iPhone find my smart TV?
Local Network access is only one part of discovery. Check these requirements in order:

Receiver compatibility: Netflix’s iPhone casting support is limited to Chromecast (3rd generation or older, without a physical remote), Google Nest Hub Smart Display, and select cast-enabled Vizio and Compal TVs. A TV having the Netflix app does not mean it can receive a cast from the iPhone app. See Netflix’s casting guidance and its supported casting-device information.

Same Wi-Fi: Connect the iPhone and receiver to the same Wi-Fi network. If your router shows separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network names, make sure both devices use the same one. Netflix outlines these checks on its “No devices found” help page.
-
Power and connection: Turn on the TV or streaming receiver; a sleeping device may not be discoverable. If you use Chromecast, check that it appears online in Google Home and is connected to the same network.

Netflix says “No devices found” or the cast icon isn’t showing
First verify Local Network access, iOS version, receiver compatibility, and the shared Wi-Fi connection. If those checks pass, power-cycle both devices and confirm Chromecast status in Google Home when applicable. Netflix’s help page addresses both “No devices found” and a missing cast icon: Cast device or cast icon isn’t showing in the Netflix app.

Can I AirPlay Netflix from my iPhone?
No. Netflix states, “Using AirPlay with iPhone and iPad is not supported with Netflix.” Screen mirroring is unsupported too, and using AirPlay or mirroring can interrupt playback. Stop mirroring and choose a supported way to watch instead. See Netflix’s casting and mirroring guidance and its screen-mirroring error information.

A cable or adapter is a separate wired method; it does not enable AirPlay or make an unsupported receiver cast-compatible. Check your current Netflix plan before buying an adapter: Netflix’s help pages say casting or mirroring requires Standard or Premium, and that watching on a TV from a mobile device is unavailable with an ad-supported experience or a Mobile plan. Plan terms can change; see Netflix’s casting help and its connected-display troubleshooting page.
