NBA 2K27’s v2.0 patch says it fixes “ghost contests” by checking a defender’s position at the moment of release and requiring the defender to be more directly in front of the shooter. The notes also describe stronger results for open shots by quality shooters, a competitive-mode mid-range boost, and a slight rebalance to three-point percentages. They provide no numerical tuning values or measured make-rate results.
What changed about shot contests and shooting?
The detailed notes reproduced by Shacknews describe a change aimed at “ghost contests”—situations where a defender who was not truly contesting a shot still affected it.

Under the change, defender position at shot release matters, and the defender must be more squarely in front of the shooter. The notes do not give a contest-angle threshold or establish that every perceived contest issue is resolved in every situation.
- Open shots: Open attempts by quality shooters are described as more effective.
- Mid-range: Mid-range shooting receives a boost in competitive modes.
- Three-pointers: Three-point percentages are described as slightly rebalanced.
These are qualitative descriptions, not a promise that every player will shoot better. The notes specify no percentage-point changes, attribute cutoffs, or player-by-player effects, so they do not establish a newly optimal build or a particular expected make rate.

Other shooting-section gameplay adjustments
The same section of the v2.0 notes covers related shot, rebound, dunk, badge, and Takeover behavior:
- Badges: Shot-range detection is more accurate for several shooting badges, so activation better reflects the shot’s range. Timing windows are adjusted for Shot Artist, Calibrated, and Navigator.
- Rebounds: The notes describe fewer multi-rim bounces and near-out-of-bounds rebound outcomes, plus a fix for a leftward rebound bias.
- Dunks: Missed dunks should occur less often when Dunk Timing is off. The notes also say dunks and alley-oops that had correct dunk-meter timing but still missed are fixed, and contact dunks occur more frequently at every Rise Up badge level.
- Defense and Takeovers: Navigator and Airspace have stronger defensive relevance. Airspace and Detonator produce less frequent and less successful dunks, while Rim Guardian counters Airspace.
- Shot feedback: Bad Shot Selection is corrected so it does not incorrectly trigger on specified greened or decent attempts.
These bullets describe intended changes; they are not independent tests of how the update performs in live games.

When did v2.0 arrive on each platform?
The official NBA 2K Discord announcement scheduled the update for around October 8, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in the player’s device time zone on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It said the PC and Nintendo Switch 2 releases would arrive shortly before Season 2 began on October 16. The announcement did not give a precise PC or Switch 2 rollout time or regional time conversion. Check the official NBA 2K Discord game-updates channel for current status.

What the patch notes do not establish
The v2.0 shooting notes contain no exact tuning values, measured shooting percentages, sample sizes, or green-window dimensions. They explain the direction of several adjustments, but do not quantify how much a make rate changed or how a specific build will perform. Treat claims about precise percentage gains or guaranteed improvements as unsupported by these notes.
