For a particular card, start with the Auction House if it is available and you can afford its current MTP price. It lets you target a listed card; packs give randomized contents, so they are a less dependable way to build around one player. Check Scouting Report and current game-mode rewards too—your target may be available without either purchase.

How the Auction House and packs differ
Auction House: target a listed card
The Auction House lets you use MyTEAM Points (MTP) to acquire cards listed by other players, and lets you auction your own cards for MTP. It offers more control over which card you pursue, but that does not guarantee a low price or that the card is currently listed.
In NBA 2K27, the Auction House is unified across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. 2K says the unified market is intended to provide greater variety and more consistent pricing; those are publisher-described benefits, not independently measured outcomes. The announcement does not establish that PC shares this marketplace. 2K says buyers receive won cards immediately and seller transactions are monitored and expedited. Packs: randomized contents
A pack may contain useful cards or items, and its description may promise a guaranteed item. But unless the card you want is explicitly guaranteed, opening a pack is not a reliable way to get that particular card. 2K says pack odds appear under the in-game “More Info” option and each purchase is an independent chance: previous misses do not improve the odds of the next pack. The “5%” on 2K’s support page is only a hypothetical example of that rule, not the odds for a current NBA 2K27 pack. Check the current panel and description before buying. 2K’s pack-odds explanation covers the general policy, not the live odds of every offer.
Which route should you try first?

How to find where a specific card is available
- Open Collections and use the NBA 2K27 Scouting Report to locate the Player Card you are looking for.
- Check the route shown for that card: Pack Market, Auction House, or a specific game-mode reward.
- If it is in the Auction House, compare its current listing price with the MTP you have and with the other in-game routes available to you.
- If it is in the Pack Market, open the offer’s “More Info” panel and read both the odds and the description. Treat any guarantee as applying only to the item the description names.
- If a mode reward is shown, review that mode’s current requirements and reward before deciding whether to pursue it.

Can you build a MyTEAM without spending real money?
There is an earnable-MTP route: 2K Support says players can earn MTP by playing MyTEAM games or completing agendas. That makes it possible to pursue market cards with currency earned through play, but the available information does not establish how quickly MTP can be earned or how long a particular card will take to afford. Check your in-game balance and current prices rather than assuming a fixed grind time.
What unwanted cards can do in NBA 2K27
The Exchange accepts Player Cards in your collection except Free Agents, according to 2K. PlayStation’s guide says cards used for a Collection Reward can still be exchanged afterward. Compare the actual Exchange reward with the value of keeping a card or listing it; eligibility does not mean exchanging is always the best choice.

Player XP is attached to your account and remains if you auction or exchange a card, according to 2K’s announcement. Cards gain progression and rewards through play, so a card’s potential use is not limited to its current lineup slot. These systems can give some unwanted cards another use, but they do not make packs a predictable source of a particular target.
Use the Auction House legitimately
2K says using Auction House activity to transfer illegitimate MTP—including gifting MTP through listings or aggregating currency across multiple accounts—violates its Code of Conduct or Terms of Service and may result in a permanent account ban. What cannot be settled without checking the live game
There is no supported universal claim that packs or the Auction House are cheaper for a named card. The answer depends on current listing prices, availability, the offer’s live odds and contents, and any reward routes. No current pack-specific odds, card prices, listing volume, market liquidity, or time-to-earn benchmark is established here. For a concrete decision, compare the specific card’s live listing with the pack’s live “More Info” panel and any current mode reward.
