The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is a design-led premium Android phone with a fast 144Hz display, 125W wired charging, and a three-camera rear system that covers ultrawide, standard, and 3× telephoto focal lengths. Its main compromises are sustained graphics performance, extreme digital zoom, a 4500mAh battery that is smaller than some rivals, and a software support promise that is shorter than the best in its class. Whether it is a good buy depends mostly on its price in your market today, because the phone launched in 2024 and its review-period prices and offers are no longer current.
Key specifications
Motorola’s India specifications page is the most direct official reference for the hardware. It notes that specifications may vary by market, so confirm the configuration on the listing you are buying.

Design and display
Tech Advisor and 91mobiles both singled out the design and the screen as strengths. The 144Hz pOLED panel at 2712 × 1220 is the main reason the phone reads as a premium device in daily use: scrolling and animations look smooth, and the high resolution gives text and photos plenty of detail. Neither review presented the display as a weakness.

Cameras: hardware and how it performed
Motorola’s launch announcement lists four cameras, which gives the phone more focal-length options than most mid-range rivals.

91mobiles found pleasing detail in its tests and described the ultrawide as sharp. It also reported weaker dynamic range than it wanted, colors that were boosted rather than natural, and fuzzy results with poor detail and color accuracy when using 100× digital zoom. Treat these as that reviewer’s observations rather than guaranteed results. The practical takeaway is that the 3× telephoto is the zoom to rely on; the 100× mode is a novelty.
Battery life
The 4500mAh battery is the phone’s weakest hardware number on paper, and the two reviews that measured endurance reached very different results because they used different methods.
| Source | Test | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Tech Advisor (2024) | PCMark Work 3.0 | 10 hours 5 minutes |
| 91mobiles (2024) | PCMark battery test | 13 hours 27 minutes |
Do not treat these two figures as directly comparable; they come from different test setups. Tech Advisor’s reviewer also described a 16-hour day of moderate use ending with 40–45% charge remaining. That is one reviewer’s personal experience under the conditions described in that review, not a controlled endurance measurement. For most buyers, the more useful expectation is a full day of mixed use with moderate use, with heavier gaming or video shortening it.
Charging speed
The headline charging figures are up to 125W wired and up to 50W wireless. In 91mobiles’ test, the phone went from 20% to 100% in 15 minutes with the charge boost setting enabled. That is a single test result under those settings, not a guarantee for every charge.
GSMArena’s reviewed package included the 125W adapter and a USB-C cable. Bundles differ by region and retailer, so check what your local listing includes before assuming you will receive a 125W charger in the box.
Performance and graphics
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 pairs with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. For everyday tasks, including apps, multitasking, and photography, reviewers found the phone capable. Motorola’s launch announcement puts it this way: “The motorola edge 50 ultra is equipped with the Snapdragon® 8s Gen 3 Mobile Platform, fueling all key features throughout the phone.” That is promotional wording, not an independent assessment.
Rank #2
- Unlocked for All GSM Carriers Only (Excluding Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular), No CDMA. Dual SIM (1x Nano-SIM slot, eSIM), Networks: 2G GSM, 3G, 4G LTE, 5G
- 6.7" Super HD (1220 p) display, Super HD (2712 x 1220), 144 Hz refresh rate, 3D Corning Gorilla Glass Victus with anti-fingerprint coating
- 1TB UFS 4.0 Storage, 16GB LPDDR5X RAM
- Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 Mobile Platform
- Android 14
The independent limitation is graphics. Tech Advisor described the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 GPU as below the top-tier Snapdragon platforms and, in its comparison, behind the previous Edge 40 Pro. That matters for sustained, demanding games rather than general use, and it is the main reason to look elsewhere if high-end gaming is your priority.
Software and update support
At review time, Tech Advisor and 91mobiles reported Motorola’s promise as three major Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates. Those figures are from 2024 coverage. The start date for the four-year window, regional differences, and how much support remains today are not verified in this article, so check Motorola’s current support information before relying on it. Tech Advisor also noted preinstalled third-party apps and the absence of an always-on display option in the software it tested; both may depend on software version and market.

Launch and review-period prices are useful for context but should not be read as current prices.
- Launch MSRP: €999 starting price in selected markets, from Motorola’s 2024 announcement.
- UK review period (2024): £849.99 direct and £829 on Amazon, per Tech Advisor.
- India (2024): 91mobiles framed the phone against a roughly ₹60,000 budget and noted an early bank offer bringing it to ₹54,999. That was an early offer, not a standing price.

Pros and cons
Pros
- Attractive design and a 144Hz pOLED display, both praised by reviewers.
- Four-camera system with a 3× optical telephoto and a sharp ultrawide.
- Fast wired and wireless charging on paper, with a rapid result in one test.
- Capable everyday performance with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage.
Cons
- Graphics performance trails top-tier Snapdragon platforms under sustained load.
- Smaller 4500mAh battery; endurance results vary widely between tests.
- Weaker dynamic range, boosted color, and poor results at 100× zoom in one review.
- Three OS upgrades and four years of security updates at launch, which is shorter than some rivals.
- No memory-card slot.
Who should buy it
- Buy it if design, display quality, and camera flexibility matter most, and you can get a competitive local price.
- Buy it if you charge often and value fast top-ups.
- Look elsewhere if sustained high-end gaming is central to your use.
- Look elsewhere if you want the longest software support commitment or consistently natural camera rendering.
How to compare it with rivals
Reviews compare the Edge 50 Ultra with the OnePlus 12, Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8a, Samsung Galaxy S24, Xiaomi 14, and iQOO 12. Their prices are dated, so compare current local prices instead of the figures in those reviews. Use these axes: price and current promotions; graphics and sustained performance; camera color, dynamic range, and telephoto quality; battery and charging; software support length; and what is included in the box.
Verdict
The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is a strong choice for buyers who want a well-designed phone with a excellent display, a versatile camera system, and very fast charging. It is less convincing for heavy gamers, for photographers who want consistently natural color and dynamic range, or for buyers who need the longest possible update window. Its value is strongly tied to price: at a competitive local price with a clear support commitment from Motorola, it is an appealing premium Android phone; at full launch pricing, compare it closely with its rivals first.
