MrBeast leads YouTube’s subscriber record, while Pinkfong’s “Baby Shark” holds the cited all-time video-view record. They top different leaderboards: YouTube reported MrBeast’s 500-million-subscriber milestone on June 12, 2026, and Guinness World Records listed “Baby Shark” at 16,643,177,027 views as of February 4, 2026. Neither figure is a live count.

Who has the most subscribers on YouTube?

MrBeast, the channel of creator Jimmy Donaldson, is the leader identified in YouTube’s account of the platform’s record history. YouTube reported on June 12, 2026, that he had become the first individual creator to reach 500 million subscribers. The post also says he became YouTube’s most-subscribed channel in June 2024. The 500-million figure is a dated milestone, not a current subscriber total. YouTube Blog

“Most-subscribed channel” and “first individual creator to reach 500 million” describe related but distinct records. The first compares channels; the second specifies an individual creator. Subscriber totals change, so a ranking should include an observation date rather than imply a fixed present-day count.

What is the most-viewed YouTube video of all time?

Guinness World Records names Pinkfong’s “Baby Shark” as the most-viewed video on YouTube. Its record entry lists 16,643,177,027 views as of February 4, 2026. Guinness notes that records can change daily and that online publication may lag, so this is a dated record snapshot, not a guaranteed current total. This is an all-time video-view record, not a subscriber record or a current chart position. It should not be compared directly with MrBeast’s subscriber milestone: the metrics and entities are different.

What does “most popular” mean on YouTube?

There is no single ranking that answers every meaning of “most popular.” A channel can lead by subscribers, a video by lifetime views, a song by music-chart views, a Shorts track by creations using its audio, or a podcast by watch time. Each measure has its own scope, time window, eligibility rules, and sometimes geography.

  • Subscribers: an audience measure for a channel, reported at a particular time.
  • Lifetime video views: accumulated views on an individual video; an all-time record needs a dated count.
  • Daily or weekly music charts: rankings for official music videos, songs, or artists, with chart-specific counting rules.
  • Shorts music charts: based on Shorts created featuring a song, rather than ordinary video-view totals.
  • Podcast charts: ranked by total watch time in supported markets, not by total video views.
  • Trending charts: intended to surface newly popular content using multiple signals, not simply sort videos by views.

Is YouTube Trending the same as the most-viewed list?

No. YouTube’s Trending charts are not a straightforward ranking by total views. YouTube says they consider view count and how quickly views are growing, alongside topic relevance, video age, view sources, and performance compared with recent uploads from the same channel. The charts update roughly every 30 minutes, are not personalized, and apply within a country. YouTube explains that a video with the highest view count on a given day may not rank first on a Trending chart, and a video with fewer views may appear above one with more. YouTube announced on July 10, 2025, that it was moving away from one all-purpose Trending list toward category-specific charts. That makes the chart name, country, and observation time essential context whenever someone reports that a video is “trending.” YouTube’s explanation of Trending charts

How YouTube’s other charts count popularity

Chart What it measures Time window or market
Daily Top Music Videos Views of official music videos Daily; refreshed daily
Weekly Top Music Videos Views of official music videos Weekly
Weekly Top Songs Views across official music videos, user-made videos using the official song, and lyric videos Weekly
Weekly Top Artists Views across an artist’s discography, including official videos, user-made videos with the official song, live performances, remixes, lyric videos, album songs, and collaborations Weekly
Shorts music charts Number of Shorts created featuring each song Chart and market dependent
Weekly Top Podcast Shows Total watch time for podcast playlists Weekly; YouTube Help lists availability in the US, Canada, and Mexico

These charts answer different questions. For example, a song’s Shorts chart position reflects how often people create Shorts with it, while a podcast chart uses watch time. YouTube says paid advertising views are excluded from YouTube Music Charts, and policy-violating content may also be ineligible. For Trending charts, ad views are not included in the view count used for measurement. YouTube Help: YouTube Charts & Insights

Why dates and counting methods matter

View-count comparisons can span changes in measurement. YouTube Analytics says that beginning August 24, 2026, views are counted when a video starts to play across Shorts, long-form videos, and live streams. Older comparisons may not use an identical counting method, so check the date and methodology before treating totals as directly comparable. YouTube Help: Understand your YouTube content performance

For a useful ranking, label four things: the metric (such as subscribers or lifetime views), the time window (all-time, daily, or weekly), the scope (platform-wide or a country-specific chart), and the snapshot date. Music and Shorts charts also require their own eligibility and counting context.
