There isn’t one reliable monthly electricity cost for a 24/7 YouTube stream on a Dell OptiPlex Micro: the exact model, its average power draw while streaming, and your electricity rate all matter. Measure the computer’s average input power at the wall during the real stream, then multiply its monthly energy use by your delivered price per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
Calculate the monthly electricity cost
For a 30-day month, a computer running continuously operates for 720 hours. If its average wall draw is W watts:
- Monthly energy: W × 24 × 30 ÷ 1,000 = W × 0.72 kWh.
- Monthly electricity cost: monthly kWh × your delivered electricity price per kWh.
For a month with a different number of days, use W × 24 × actual days ÷ 1,000, then multiply by your price per kWh. Use the rate that applies to your account, including delivered-electricity charges where applicable.

Illustrative costs at a U.S. benchmark rate
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports a 2025 annual average residential electricity price of 17.30¢/kWh. The table applies that U.S. benchmark to example power draws; these are arithmetic scenarios, not measurements of an OptiPlex running YouTube.

| Illustrative average wall draw | Energy in 30 days | Example cost at 17.30¢/kWh |
|---|---|---|
| 10 W | 7.2 kWh | About $1.25 |
| 20 W | 14.4 kWh | About $2.49 |
| 40 W | 28.8 kWh | About $4.98 |
Amounts are rounded to the nearest cent, so rounding can affect the displayed total. EIA’s figure is a national average, not a quote for an individual account; it describes an annual average retail price that includes delivered-electricity costs such as generation, transmission, distribution, taxes, and fees. Local rates vary substantially. The 2025 range cited by EIA across all utility customer types was 8.20¢/kWh in North Dakota to 35.72¢/kWh in Hawaii; that is not a residential-only state range. Use your own bill rate for a personal estimate.
Measure the OptiPlex while it is actually streaming
The key input is average AC power at the wall under your real streaming workload—not a power-supply label or an idle figure. Use a plug-in electricity meter that reports watts or accumulated kWh. Measure the computer and any peripherals you want included, with the stream running at your normal resolution, encoding settings, and workload. A longer measurement that captures normal fluctuations gives a more useful average than a quick glance.

- 16GB DDR4 memory - For multitasking power.
- 256GB solid state drive for an amazingly smooth and fast computing experience.

- Operating System: Windows 11 Pro 64 Bit-Multi-Language Supports.
- Connect the OptiPlex and the peripherals you want to count to the meter, following the meter’s instructions.
- Run the intended YouTube stream with the normal settings. Allow the setup to settle into its usual operating state.
- Record average watts over a representative period, or record energy use over that period and calculate the average power: kWh × 1,000 ÷ hours.
- Put that average watt figure into the monthly formula above and multiply by your delivered rate.
To compare two computers or setups, measure both at the wall under the same stream workload, for the same period, and with the same peripherals included. Then apply the same operating hours and electricity price. A comparison made with different stream settings or measurement boundaries may not be meaningful.

OptiPlex Micro 7010 certification figures
ENERGY STAR’s certification record for a listed Dell OptiPlex Micro 7010 configuration reports 7.7 W for short idle, 1.3 W for long idle, 1.3 W for sleep, and 0.3 W for off. It also lists a model TEC of 26.8 kWh. These are figures for the record’s stated test categories and configuration; they do not establish the power draw of a 24/7 YouTube stream. In particular, do not use an idle value as if it were a streaming measurement. The record does not show a publication date.

OptiPlex 3070 Micro power supply
Dell’s OptiPlex 3070 Micro documentation lists a 65 W power supply with 87% average efficiency. This is a different OptiPlex model, and those figures describe the supply rating and efficiency—not the system’s actual wall draw while streaming. Multiplying 65 W by the month’s operating hours would treat the supply’s rating as measured consumption, which it is not.
What a 24/7 YouTube stream means for a home setup
The calculation covers the equipment included in your meter reading. If you measure only the OptiPlex, the result excludes a display, networking equipment, or other devices not connected through the meter. Conversely, if the meter includes those devices, their consumption is part of the estimate. Electricity costs also depend on your tariff and operating time; a 30-day estimate assumes continuous operation for all 720 hours.
