Can you play Arena Quests in Monster Hunter Rise with friends? The official manuals explain the Arena’s fixed loadouts, timed objective, rewards and Buddy restriction, but do not confirm whether every Arena quest supports multiplayer or specify an Arena party size. Don’t assume the general four-player Lobby limit applies to Arena Quests.
What makes an Arena Quest different?
Arena Quests are offered by Master Utsushi in the Gathering Hub or Master Arlow in Elgado. Instead of bringing your usual preparation, you choose from predetermined equipment and items presented on the equipment screen after departure. Meals provide no benefit during these quests. Capcom’s Arena manual describes the objective plainly: “You complete the quest by slaying the monster within the allotted time.”
Loadouts, objective and rewards
- Equipment and items: Use the loadout choices provided for the Arena Quest.
- Meal effects: Meals do not provide benefits in Arena Quests.
- Completion: Slay the monster before the time limit expires.
- Rewards: Regular monster materials are not awarded. Special materials, useful items and Kamura points may be awarded.
Can you play Arena Quests in multiplayer?
The official Arena instructions cover access, equipment, meals, the objective and rewards, but do not say whether every Arena Quest supports multiplayer or give an Arena-specific party limit. That means the general multiplayer rules cannot establish that a particular Arena Quest is playable with friends, nor how many hunters it admits. Check the quest’s available options in your game rather than treating the Lobby capacity as an Arena rule.
How multiplayer works for eligible Hub quests
For ordinary multiplayer, Capcom documents two routes: create or join a Lobby, or use a Join Request to let hunters in other Lobbies join an eligible Hub Quest already in progress. Village Quests are single-player; Hub Quests are the route the manuals describe for playing with other hunters. A Lobby can hold up to four players, and players must be on the same game version. These are general Rise multiplayer rules, not confirmation of Arena support. See Capcom’s platform-specific Switch, Steam and PlayStation setup guidance.

Platform requirements
- Nintendo Switch: Internet play requires an internet connection and Nintendo Switch Online membership. Local co-op supports up to four players, with a Switch console and game copy for each player.
- PlayStation: Online play requires PlayStation Network sign-in and PlayStation Plus. Capcom describes online play across PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5.
- Steam: Multiplayer requires an internet connection and Steam sign-in.
These service requirements are platform-specific and may change; consult the manual for the platform you use.
Buddy rules: Arena versus Hub co-op
Arena Quests do not allow Buddies. In multiplayer Hub Quests, each player may bring one Buddy; offline Hub hunters may take up to two. This companion restriction is documented separately from the unresolved question of Arena multiplayer availability. Capcom’s Buddies manual explains the rules.

What to check before planning an Arena session
- Talk to Master Utsushi in the Gathering Hub or Master Arlow in Elgado to find the Arena Quests.
- Inspect the available equipment and item choices after departure; you cannot rely on your ordinary hunt loadout.
- Do not plan around meal benefits or bringing a Buddy.
- If playing with friends is essential, verify whether the specific quest offers a multiplayer option in your game. The official manual does not establish that every Arena Quest does.
