Make a mobile app feel faster and easier to use by measuring real user journeys, removing work that delays useful screens, keeping interactions responsive, and designing accessible, predictable controls. Then validate those changes on the devices and conditions your app supports and monitor behavior after release. Android and Apple publish useful platform-specific recommendations, but their thresholds are not universal standards.
Start with user tasks and a measurable baseline
Choose a few journeys that matter to your app—such as first launch, sign-in, search, checkout, or content playback—and measure them before changing code. A useful baseline pairs technical signals with observed friction: how long users wait for a useful screen, whether input receives prompt feedback, and where people abandon or repeat a step.
Track startup, interaction response, rendering and scrolling, memory, battery use, crashes, and Android non-responsive application events (ANRs). Prioritize by task and context, not by the biggest-looking number alone. Background audio use may be expected in a player; the same behavior may be suspicious in an app without background playback. Apple recommends a repeatable cycle of gathering information, measuring, choosing a change, implementing it, and observing the result in its performance guidance.
Improve startup and waiting states
Measure cold, warm, and hot starts separately
A cold start launches the app from scratch, a warm start resumes a process that remains in memory, and a hot start returns an already-running activity or screen. Because the system and app do different work in each case, report them separately and test under representative conditions rather than relying on one average.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Android’s performance overview suggests aiming for cold startup below 500 ms, warm startup below 200 ms, and hot startup below 150 ms. These are Android recommendations, not guarantees or cross-platform limits; device, app state, and test conditions affect the result. See Android’s performance measurement overview.
Shorten the path to useful content
- Keep nonessential initialization, disk or network I/O, and work unrelated to the first useful screen off the startup critical path where possible.
- Defer work until the feature that needs it is opened, and avoid loading data or assets that the initial task does not require.
- On Android, evaluate Baseline Profiles, startup profiles, and the App Startup library where they suit the app. Google says Baseline Profiles can improve code execution speed by 30% from the first launch; that undated platform claim describes potential improvement, not a guaranteed result for every app. Details are in Android’s app optimization guidance.
Make waiting understandable
When a task cannot complete immediately, show a clear loading or progress state and avoid leaving the interface looking frozen. Android’s core quality guidance calls for quick loading or onscreen feedback when startup takes longer than two seconds; that is Android guidance, not a universal rule for every platform or task. The guidance, updated March 20, 2026, is at Android Core app quality guidelines.
Keep interactions and motion responsive
Profile the moments when a user taps, types, scrolls, or changes screens. Look for expensive main-thread work, lock contention, slow layout or view binding, repeated updates, and unnecessary redraws. Android’s performance guidance connects slow rendering with costly layouts, binding, and main-thread stalls; Apple calls delayed interaction a hang and broken smooth motion a hitch.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Apple’s responsiveness documentation offers engineering guidance of under 100 ms for synchronous main-thread work responding to a discrete interaction, and under one display refresh interval—8 or 17 ms, depending on refresh rate—for continuous interaction work. These are platform-specific engineering targets, not guarantees about what every user perceives. Use Apple’s responsiveness guidance and Instruments to investigate. On Android, use the workflows in Android’s performance measurement overview, including Android Studio Profiler and Perfetto.
Test on representative physical devices, including older supported models when investigating hitches. A simulator or one high-end phone can miss resource pressure and rendering behavior that appears on other hardware.
Make core flows accessible and predictable
Give controls clear meaning
- Use platform conventions, semantic roles, and concise labels or descriptions that explain a control’s purpose and result.
- Give repeated items distinct descriptions so a screen reader user can tell one result from another.
- Avoid redundant wording: if assistive technology already announces an element’s role, adding “button” to its label may provide no useful information.
Android’s accessibility guidance covers descriptions and touch targets at Make apps more accessible. Apple’s performance-test documentation explains how UI automation can reference elements through app accessibility support: Writing and running performance tests.

Make touch targets practical
Android recommends interactive targets of at least 48 dp square. Treat that as Android guidance, not a direct pixel measurement or a universal platform rule; account for layout density and platform conventions when implementing controls.
Exercise complete flows with accessibility enabled
Test the journeys users actually complete with screen readers and accessibility inspection tools, not just isolated controls. Include accessibility-supported references in automated UI tests so the tests interact with elements in ways that reflect their exposed semantics.
Test across supported devices, conditions, and platforms
Build a compatibility matrix from your real audience and the configurations you promise to support. Android’s current core quality guidance spans phones, tablets, foldables, desktops, connected displays, cars, TV, and XR; teams should validate the form factors relevant to their app rather than assume phone-only behavior. Exercise primary features through interruptions, network changes, and different device configurations.

| Platform | Useful tools and signals | What they help investigate |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Android Studio Profiler, Perfetto, Logcat, and Android vitals | Runtime performance, traces and rendering, diagnostic logs, and field signals including stability, memory, and battery behavior. |
| Apple platforms | Instruments, XCTest, Xcode Organizer, and MetricKit | Performance testing and diagnosis on devices, automated tests, and post-release performance metrics. |
These toolsets serve different platform ecosystems; they are not direct equivalents. For Android, begin with measuring app performance and Android vitals. For Apple platforms, see improving app performance and performance tests.
Choose physical devices based on your audience and compatibility matrix. An Android test phone can help reproduce behavior on real hardware, but one device cannot establish broad device coverage.

Lab measurements reveal controlled performance problems; field metrics show what happens across actual user devices and conditions. Android vitals covers stability, memory, and battery signals. Google says it uses the last 28 days of data to assess app quality, but this is platform detail that can change; consult the current Android vitals documentation before relying on thresholds or store consequences. Its core signals include user-perceived crash and ANR rates, partial wake locks, and memory or bitmap usage.
