When a Minecraft Realms subscription ends, the hosted Realm is reported to become unavailable for online play. That does not establish that the saved world is immediately deleted—but the often-repeated claim that it is kept for 18 months is not confirmed by accessible official policy text. If you want to keep the world, download a local copy as soon as the option is available and check current Minecraft support for your edition and platform.
What stops working when a Realm subscription ends?
Secondary coverage reports that an expired Realm can no longer be used for online play. In practical terms, do not count on the hosted world remaining available to you or invited players after the subscription ends. The accessible official Minecraft help page does not state an expiration or retention rule, so the exact behavior for your account and edition is not established here. Minecraft Help is the place to check current guidance. The reports of lost hosted access come from Robots.net and CyberPost.
Does the saved world get deleted?
Loss of online access and deletion of the saved world are different questions. Recent secondary articles say the world may be retained after a subscription expires, but the commonly quoted 18-month period is not verified as current official policy and should not be treated as a guaranteed recovery window. The reports are Robots.net and CyberPost; the official help destination retrieved for this topic did not provide a retention duration.

Because the duration and post-expiration options are not confirmed, avoid waiting for a particular deadline. Check the Realm’s current status and download a copy promptly if the game offers that option.

How to protect your world before or after expiration
- Check the Realm in Minecraft. Open the Realm using the edition and platform on which you manage it, and inspect its current status and available world-management options.
- Download a local copy if available. Use the in-game download or world-copy option shown for your account. The exact menu path and whether downloading remains possible after expiration were not verified, so follow the current interface rather than relying on generic click-by-click instructions.
- Keep the copy somewhere you control. Confirm that the downloaded world appears in your local worlds and can be opened before relying on it as your backup.
- Consult current support for your edition and platform. If you cannot access or download the world, check Minecraft Help before assuming it is recoverable or permanently lost.
Should you renew or move to another host?
Renewing may be an option if you want to continue using the Realm, while another hosted server may suit you if you want ongoing online play elsewhere. Secondary coverage discusses renewal, downloads, and third-party hosting as possibilities, not guaranteed paths for every expired account. CyberPost

Stopping play is not the same as cancelling billing
Leaving a Realm unused does not by itself confirm that its subscription has been cancelled. Check the store or account through which you purchased the subscription for its current billing and cancellation status. The cancellation steps can vary by purchase platform, and a platform-specific procedure is not established here.
