In Minecraft Java Edition 26.3 and Bedrock Edition 26.40, craft a cushion from three wool slabs of the same color. The cushion comes in 16 color variants and works as seating: place it on a flat surface, then interact with it to sit.
What you need to craft a cushion
- Three wool slabs, all the same color.
- A crafting interface. The official release notes confirm the ingredients but do not specify how to arrange them in the grid. Use the in-game recipe book or recipe display for the exact layout.
The recipe and 16 colored variants are documented in Mojang’s Java Edition 26.3 release notes and Bedrock Edition 26.40 release notes.
How to craft it
- Gather three wool slabs of one color.
- Open the crafting interface and check the recipe book or recipe display for the cushion recipe’s grid arrangement.
- Craft the cushion, then move it into your inventory.
How to place and use a cushion
- Choose a flat surface and place the cushion there.
- Interact with the placed cushion to sit. The control depends on your platform and input settings, so there is no single key that applies to every player.
Java Edition 26.3 notes that cushions align horizontally to the grid and sit vertically atop the supporting surface. Mojang describes the item as something players can place and interact with to sit.

Edition and version notes
| Edition and version | What the release notes establish |
|---|---|
| Java Edition 26.3 | Three same-color wool slabs craft a cushion; 16 colored variants; cushions can be placed and used for sitting. Placement aligns horizontally to the grid and sits vertically atop the supporting surface. |
| Bedrock Edition 26.40 | Three same-color wool slabs craft a cushion; 16 colored variants; cushions can be placed and used for sitting. The notes identify a generation issue in Abandoned Camps for that version and say cushions could be found in the creative inventory. |
These details are documented for the named releases; they do not establish that cushions are available in earlier versions or describe their behavior in later releases. In particular, the Bedrock Abandoned Camps issue is specific to version 26.40 and should not be taken as a statement about current generation behavior in other versions.
