MINC’s programmable-logic design products were software tools, not FPGA or CPLD chips. The documented family included PLDSynthesis II 3.8C, MACHXL 5.0, the Synario design products and VHDL EASY, covering parts of the design process from HDL or schematic entry through synthesis, implementation, simulation and timing analysis.

What MINC announced

The title refers to a group of electronic-design-automation products for designing with programmable logic, rather than one new device or a single all-in-one product. The surviving archival records identify several products and versions, but do not establish the exact wording of the original announcement or provide a complete list of every version described as new.

MINC’s tools were intended for designs targeting programmable logic from other manufacturers. They helped engineers describe, synthesize, implement or analyze a design; they were not the silicon itself.

MINC’s documented products and versions

Product Documented version or era What the record says it did Documented host platform
PLDSynthesis II 3.8C PLD, CPLD and FPGA design; installation notes document optional VHDL and Verilog synthesis. Sun SPARC and HP 9000/700 workstations, according to the installation notes.
MACHXL 5.0 Design, synthesis, place and route, simulation and timing analysis for AMD MACH programmable-logic devices. EDN also reported timing-model outputs for Verilog or VHDL simulators. Not stated in the cited EDN report.
Synario System Designer Version not stated in the cited EDN report A MINC design product; the report presented it as one of several separately configured products. Windows 95 and Windows NT, according to EDN.
Synario Board Designer Version not stated in the cited EDN report A MINC design product; the cited report does not detail its individual feature set. Windows 95 and Windows NT, according to EDN.
Programmable IC Designer Version not stated in the cited EDN report A MINC design product; the cited report does not detail its individual feature set. Windows 95 and Windows NT, according to EDN.
VHDL EASY Advertised in 1997 MINC advertised full-capability VHDL synthesis with automatic optimization for PLD, CPLD and FPGA design. Windows 95 and Windows NT, according to MINC’s advertisement.

How the tools fit into a design workflow

The named products span different parts of programmable-logic development. PLDSynthesis II’s documented optional VHDL and Verilog synthesis and VHDL EASY’s advertised VHDL synthesis relate to turning a hardware description into a logic implementation. MACHXL 5.0 is the clearest documented example of a broader workflow: EDN described it as covering synthesis, place and route, simulation and timing analysis for AMD MACH devices.

These records do not show that every MINC product supported every device family or every step. In particular, EDN’s feature description for MACHXL is specific to AMD MACH programmable logic; it should not be generalized to all FPGA, CPLD or PLD families.

What the period prices were

The following figures were advertised introductory prices, not evidence of present-day prices or recurring subscription charges. EDN reported the Synario prices in a late-1990s-era account; MINC’s VHDL EASY advertisement was published in 1997.

Product Reported introductory price Source and qualification
VHDL EASY $495 MINC advertisement, 1997; introductory price. The advertisement also mentioned one device library, an integrated tutorial and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Synario Board Designer $2,495 EDN report from the late 1990s; introductory price.
Synario System Designer $3,995 EDN report from the late 1990s; introductory price.
Programmable IC Designer $3,495 EDN report from the late 1990s; introductory price.

EDN quoted a MINC representative explaining the product-suite approach as allowing “different price points” and better product configuration. That helps explain why the Synario products appear as separate offerings with distinct introductory prices rather than one uniform package.

Are MINC’s tools still available, and what replaced them?

The archival material identifies historical products and period-specific operating systems; it does not verify whether MINC software can still be purchased, downloaded, licensed or run today. Nor does it establish a direct successor product or a one-for-one replacement for PLDSynthesis II, MACHXL, Synario or VHDL EASY. Treat any claim that a particular current tool replaced them as unverified unless its vendor documents that lineage.

For a present-day comparison, look at the actual device family and its current vendor-supported toolchain rather than matching product names alone. Microchip’s current FPGA and SoC FPGA materials describe Libero SoC Design Suite alongside development boards, kits and training; its SPLD/CPLD materials describe current families, in-system programming and WinCUPL. These are modern category examples, not MINC successors. When evaluating a modern workflow, check device support, HDL and schematic entry, synthesis and place-and-route, simulation and timing, programming and debug, host operating-system requirements, licensing, and availability of vendor support and hardware.

What the historical record establishes—and what it does not

The records establish a portfolio of MINC software for programmable-logic design, several product names and versions, some workflow capabilities, period host platforms and advertised introductory prices. They do not establish a definitive original announcement page for the exact announcement title, a complete version-by-version change history, or verified present-day availability. The safest reading is therefore that MINC announced or sold a set of design products for programmable logic, not that one documented release replaced the entire family.
