To migrate from Scrapingdog safely, inventory how your application actually uses it, map each request feature to the replacement API, replay representative URLs against both providers, then shift traffic gradually with a rollback path. Do not assume that changing the endpoint preserves behavior: authentication names, rendering defaults, proxy options, response formats, billing and error handling can all differ.

This guide focuses on managed web-scraping APIs. It does not claim that any provider is universally better or that a particular migration has been tested. The right replacement is the one that returns correct, usable results for your targets at an acceptable operational and per-result cost.

What to inventory before changing providers

Start with the contract your code and production workload rely on, not just the URL in a request. Scrapingdog documents a general scrape endpoint as well as separate API categories, so identify any specialized endpoint before treating it as ordinary web scraping. Its documentation describes the service and its request options at Scrapingdog documentation.

  • Endpoint and method: record the exact path, HTTP method, query parameters or body fields, and any SDK or wrapper involved.
  • Authentication: note how credentials are supplied and where they are stored. Keep keys in your normal secret manager, not source control or logs.
  • Target mix: list representative URL patterns and note sites or page types that need special treatment.
  • Request mode: distinguish ordinary HTML retrieval from JavaScript rendering, premium proxy use, or both.
  • Geography and proxy: record country selection, proxy type, and whether a target depends on a particular region.
  • Customization: capture custom headers, cookies, sessions, user-agent settings, waits, and any other request-specific behavior.
  • Response assumptions: note expected status, content type, encoding, body shape, and how your parser decides a result is usable.
  • Operations: document timeouts, retries, concurrency, request volume by mode, and how your code handles errors.

Scrapingdog’s request customization documentation describes rendering and proxy options; confirm current names and behavior in its live request customization documentation rather than relying on old code comments.

Map each request feature to the replacement

A destination endpoint may accept the same target URL but still produce different behavior. Make a feature-by-feature mapping before editing production code, and verify the destination’s current documentation for every option your application uses.

Scrapingdog request basics

Scrapingdog documents https://api.scrapingdog.com/scrape with api_key and url as basic request parameters. Its request customization material describes dynamic=true for JavaScript rendering, premium=true for premium residential proxy use, and a custom-header option. Treat these names as incumbent details to confirm against the live documentation before implementing a migration.

ScrapingAnt’s documented mapping

ScrapingAnt publishes a migration guide for its own API. It describes /v2/general as a replacement for general scraping, uses x-api-key for credentials, and maps JavaScript rendering to browser=true; the guide says browser rendering is enabled by default and can be disabled with browser=false. It also maps country to proxy_country and premium to proxy_type. The guide cautions that other parameter names or behavior may differ, so this mapping is a starting point rather than proof of equivalence. See the ScrapingAnt migration guide.

Other managed APIs

Scrape.do documents a managed API with rendering, proxy, credit and concurrency concepts. That makes it a candidate to evaluate, but the available documentation does not establish a parameter-for-parameter Scrapingdog mapping. Review its API documentation against your actual request inventory.

For any candidate, check method and parameter names, geography codes, proxy choices, headers and cookies, sessions, rendering waits, CAPTCHA or block handling, response formats, asynchronous jobs, and any structured extraction endpoint. An API that covers the same broad use case may still require response-parser changes or a different retry strategy.

Compare providers on equal work and cost

Compare usable results, not just nominal requests or monthly plan prices. Scrapingdog’s official documentation at the time of research lists the following credit rates. These are vendor-published, changeable terms, not independent measurements; verify them against the current docs and pricing before budgeting.

Scrapingdog request mode Documented credit rate Source context
Rotating-proxy web scrape 1 credit Scrapingdog’s current documentation at research time
JavaScript rendering 5 credits Scrapingdog’s current documentation at research time
Premium proxy 10 credits Scrapingdog’s current documentation at research time
JavaScript rendering plus premium proxy 25 credits Scrapingdog’s current documentation at research time

See the Scrapingdog documentation and request customization page. Plan prices and capacities are also subject to change; check the live Scrapingdog pricing page before using any plan figure in a cost model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Estimate the workload’s actual mix: simple pages, rendered pages, geography-dependent requests, and premium proxy calls. For each provider, calculate total cost divided by successful, correct results. Confirm whether failed calls, retries, blocked pages, and unusable responses consume credits under current terms. A lower charge per attempted call can still mean a higher cost per usable record if more calls fail or need retries.

Use a workload scorecard

  • Feature fit: Can it handle your ordinary HTML, browser-rendered content, locations, proxy types, sessions, headers, and any specialized endpoint?
  • Result quality: Are the fields your application consumes present, complete, correctly encoded, and accurate?
  • Operations: Compare latency distribution, timeouts, retry behavior, concurrency, error visibility, support, and rollback practicality.
  • Economics: Include credit or bandwidth billing, mode-specific charges, plan caps, concurrency limits, and effective cost per correct result.
  • Migration effort: Count endpoint, credential, parameter, default, response parsing, SDK, and downstream code changes.

ScrapingAnt has the most directly applicable migration documentation among the alternatives covered here. Scrape.do has official API documentation to evaluate. ScraperAPI is another provider to investigate, but the cited ScraperAPI affiliate page does not establish technical compatibility with Scrapingdog; assess its current technical documentation independently. These are candidates for workload testing, not recommendations based on unobserved performance.

Replay a representative request set

Before changing traffic, build a fixed test set from production URLs. Include the page types that matter to your application and, where relevant, dynamic pages and geographic variations. The goal is to compare outcomes under the same conditions, not to infer service-wide reliability from a small sample.

  1. Choose representative inputs. Include common targets, known difficult pages, and cases where rendering or location changes the result.
  2. Run both providers. Use equivalent request modes where possible and record configuration differences where they are not equivalent.
  3. Validate the output. Compare returned status, content completeness, extracted fields, encoding, cookies or headers when relevant, and downstream parser behavior.
  4. Measure operations and spend. Record response time, timeout and retry outcomes, concurrency behavior, and billable usage for each result.
  5. Repeat the replay. Repeat enough to expose variation in the workload; do not treat one successful response as evidence of consistent behavior.
  6. Set acceptance and rollback criteria. Define your own usable-result, error, latency, and cost thresholds before increasing traffic.

This replay process is an operational recommendation, not a comparative test result. No providers were tested for this article.

Cut over in stages

  1. Implement behind a provider boundary. Keep request construction and response parsing isolated so the old and new providers can be selected without changing unrelated application logic.
  2. Protect credentials and targets. Deploy the new key through the existing secret-management path. Avoid logging full keys or sensitive target URLs.
  3. Run in shadow mode or a limited slice. Where practical, duplicate a small share of requests or direct a limited amount of traffic to the candidate while retaining the incumbent route.
  4. Watch downstream outcomes. Track usable records, error categories, latency, retries, spend, and parser behavior—not just HTTP success.
  5. Expand only after meeting your criteria. Increase traffic in deliberate stages. Keep the old route available until the replacement has met the team’s acceptance thresholds.
  6. Rollback on a defined trigger. Revert if usable results fall, failure patterns change, or cost exceeds your threshold; preserve logs that help diagnose the difference without exposing secrets.

Common migration problems and fixes

  • Authentication failures: The destination may expect a different credential parameter or header. Compare the documented authentication mechanism, verify secret injection in the deployed environment, and never paste keys into debug logs.
  • Unexpected browser rendering: A destination may render by default even when the incumbent did not, or the reverse. Set the mode explicitly where supported and compare the returned content against the expected page.
  • Missing or different proxy geography: Country codes and proxy-type names can differ. Verify the destination’s accepted values and test a location-sensitive target instead of assuming the incumbent setting transfers directly.
  • Parser breaks despite a successful response: A 2xx response does not guarantee equivalent content. Check response body shape, encoding, wrappers, and whether your parser expects raw HTML or another format.
  • Timeouts or retry storms: Provider latency and failure behavior can differ. Set an application-level timeout appropriate to the workload, cap retries, and use backoff rather than allowing retries to multiply traffic without bounds.
  • Unexpected credit consumption: Request modes may have different rates, and retry or failure billing policies may vary. Reconcile provider usage with your request-mode mix and verify current billing terms.
  • Concurrency limits or throttling: Test the workload’s actual concurrency and observe throttling responses. Adjust concurrency or queueing deliberately instead of treating a single request replay as capacity evidence.
  • Specialized endpoint no longer covered: A general scraping endpoint may not replace a search, marketplace, or structured API. Identify that dependency and select or retain an appropriate endpoint before retiring the incumbent.

Or skip the browser setup

If your need is to capture clean screenshots or PDFs of pages—not to migrate a general HTML scraping pipeline—ScreenshotNeo is a separate website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media. It is not a drop-in replacement for Scrapingdog’s general scrape endpoint. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF; the service can accept cookie/consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, with each step configurable. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing state. Its MCP server exposes screenshot tools to Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

For a one-call image capture, create an API key and use the target URL in the request. The full option reference is in the ScreenshotNeo documentation.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Every feature is available on every plan. If screenshots fit your task, sign up for the free plan.
