Because no replacement provider is specified here, there is no responsible way to give exact endpoint changes or destination-specific code. This guide gives you a provider-neutral migration plan, Scrape.do facts to account for, and a validation and cutover process you can apply once you choose a destination.
How do I migrate from Scrape.do to a web scraping API?
Treat the move as a contract migration. A successful HTTP response from the new service does not prove that it fetched the same version of the page, used the same region or session, rendered JavaScript, or returned equivalent content. Record the old integration’s inputs, behavior, outputs, operational limits, and cost signals before writing the replacement.
- Inventory the current integration. Search code, deployment configuration, and secret stores for Scrape.do base URLs, token handling, URL encoding, query parameters, proxy settings, callbacks, response parsing, retries, and billing or concurrency monitoring.
- Identify the access mode. Separate direct API-mode calls from ordinary HTTP(S) traffic sent through Scrape.do Proxy Mode. These are different integration patterns and need different replacement designs.
- Keep only required behavior. Mark settings the application depends on, such as a location, sticky session, custom headers, or JavaScript rendering. Distinguish them from parameters added experimentally and no longer needed.
- Map each required behavior to the destination’s documentation. Record an exact equivalent, a known difference, or “not supported/not established.” Do not assume similarly named parameters have identical semantics.
- Implement asynchronous workflows separately. If your system uses jobs, polling, or webhooks, migrate that contract as its own workstream rather than treating it as a synchronous endpoint swap.
- Validate in parallel, then shift traffic gradually. Compare representative results and operating costs before directing production traffic to the new service.
Store API keys outside source code, avoid logging tokens, and redact credentials from request traces. The destination’s current documentation should be the authority for its endpoint, authentication, limits, retention, and supported options.
What do I need to change when switching scraping API providers?
Build a mapping table for the actual behavior your scraper needs. Scrape.do API mode requires an account token and a target URL; its getting-started documentation says the target URL must be URL-encoded so it is not interpreted as multiple query parameters. Scrape.do also documents controls for proxy and geography, sessions, headers, rendering, and waits. Preserve only the controls your application needs, and verify each equivalent against the destination’s current documentation.

| Contract area | What to record in Scrape.do | What to verify for the destination |
|---|---|---|
| Request shape | API-mode base URL, target URL encoding, HTTP method, query parameters, and any body. | Endpoint, accepted methods, URL or body format, encoding rules, and limits on target URLs. |
| Authentication | Where and how the account token is supplied. | Credential type, header or parameter placement, rotation procedure, and treatment of unauthorized requests. |
| Proxy and geography | Proxy class and requested location, if configured. | Available routing types and locations, their effect on page behavior, and any additional cost. |
| Sessions and headers | Sticky-session behavior, forwarded or custom headers, cookies, and user-agent choices. | Whether state persists between requests and exactly which headers or cookies are forwarded, replaced, or omitted. |
| Rendering and waits | Whether JavaScript rendering is enabled and which wait condition or delay is used. | Rendering availability, wait semantics, timeout limits, and whether a successful response means the required content has loaded. |
| Errors and retries | Current timeout, retry, and error-classification behavior. | Status and error semantics, retry guidance, and whether attempts that fail or time out are charged. |
| Response and cost | Response format and any response headers used by monitoring or billing logic. | Output format, metadata, cost visibility, and how charges vary by request type or target. |
| Scale and async jobs | Concurrency, batching, async endpoints, callbacks, and result retention. | Rate and concurrency limits, job lifecycle, webhook guarantees, cancellation, and result expiration. |
This table is a migration worksheet, not a claim that any unnamed destination supports these features. If an equivalent is undocumented, treat it as unresolved and test whether the application can operate without it.
API Mode and Proxy Mode are different migrations
API Mode
In API Mode, your application calls Scrape.do’s API with a token and the target URL. Its documentation explicitly requires URL-encoding the target URL in API mode. Check existing code carefully: a URL with its own query string contains characters such as & that can otherwise be mistaken for parameters to the scraping API.
When replacing API Mode, compare the full request contract: how the target URL is represented, where authentication belongs, how optional behavior is requested, and what the response contains. Do not transplant Scrape.do query parameter names into another provider unless that provider documents them.
Proxy Mode
Proxy Mode routes normal HTTP(S) requests through proxy.scrape.do:8080, with the token and parameters placed in proxy credentials. Scrape.do documents TLS certificate implications and states that customHeaders=true is the default. Its Proxy Mode documentation says there is no difference from API Mode other than the access method; that is Scrape.do’s description of its own product, not evidence that another provider’s proxy and API interfaces are interchangeable. The two Scrape.do modes use the same subscription.

If your application uses Proxy Mode, inventory the proxy host and port, how credentials are constructed, TLS configuration, and whether custom headers are relied upon. Replacing it with a direct API call can require a different request path and response handling; replacing it with another proxy can require changes to client and certificate configuration.
How should I migrate Scrape.do asynchronous jobs?
Async work has a separate lifecycle from a synchronous fetch. Scrape.do documents its Async API at https://q.scrape.do, authenticates it with an X-Token header, and provides job and task endpoints. Its guide describes separate concurrency, polling and webhooks, status and error handling, and result expiration. Rebuild these pieces explicitly against the selected provider’s current contract.
- Job submission and acknowledgement, including what identifier is returned and when the job is considered accepted.
- Persistence of job and task IDs so workers can resume after a restart.
- Status polling or webhook delivery, including authentication and duplicate-event handling.
- Result retrieval, parsing, and deletion or expiration behavior.
- Cancellation, terminal failures, and retry decisions.
- Concurrency and queue limits, which may differ from synchronous request limits.
Scrape.do’s async guide recommends exponential backoff when polling, webhooks for production, and retrieving results before expiration. These are useful migration checks, but verify the corresponding behavior with the chosen destination rather than assuming it has the same lifecycle.
How do I compare costs and limits?
Do not convert an old credit count directly into a new provider’s request count or price. Scrape.do documents base costs for untargeted domains of 1 credit for a standard datacenter request, 5 for a request with headless rendering, 10 for residential/mobile, and 25 for residential/mobile with rendering. Costs can vary by target domain and selected options. For an actual call, Scrape.do identifies the Scrape.do-Request-Cost response header as the authoritative request cost.

| Scrape.do request type | Documented base cost for untargeted domains |
|---|---|
| Standard datacenter | 1 credit |
| Headless rendering | 5 credits |
| Residential/mobile | 10 credits |
| Residential/mobile with rendering | 25 credits |
These are Scrape.do’s documented base values for untargeted domains; the provider’s docs say domain-specific defaults and request options can change actual cost. Scrape.do’s pricing page, inspected September 29, 2026, listed 1,000 successful API credits per month and five concurrent requests on its free tier. Prices and plan limits are a dated provider snapshot; check Scrape.do’s current pricing before using them for a present-day budget.
For the destination comparison, measure representative domains at realistic volume. Compare effective cost per usable result, failed-attempt and retry charging, concurrency, geography, rendering, asynchronous throughput, and support or SLA terms. Those are decision criteria, not evidence that an unspecified replacement is cheaper or more reliable.
How do I validate the replacement before cutover?
Run both integrations against a small, representative set of pages. Include static pages and JavaScript-heavy pages, relevant regions, session-dependent pages, and targets that currently require elevated proxy handling. Use the same target inputs and application extraction logic wherever possible.
- Define acceptance criteria first. Decide which extracted fields must match, what content completeness means, acceptable error and latency ranges, and how much cost variance is tolerable.
- Capture comparable evidence. For each request, retain a correlation ID, target domain, provider, configuration, status or error category, elapsed time, extracted-field results, and the provider’s cost metadata when available. Do not store credentials in logs.
- Compare outcome, not just HTTP status. Check content completeness, extracted values, redirects, missing elements, rendering-dependent content, and session behavior.
- Exercise failure paths. Include timeouts, blocked or unavailable targets, retries, duplicate async notifications, webhook delivery, and result expiration where relevant.
- Recalculate effective cost. Divide actual billed usage by valid results, while accounting for retries and the target mix you expect in production.
This is a recommended engineering validation procedure, not a report of comparative tests. Do not cut over based only on a successful sample response.

How should I switch production traffic and roll back?
Keep the old integration available while validating the replacement. Route a limited share of production requests to the new provider, monitor content validity, error categories, latency, actual cost, and queue or concurrency behavior, then increase the share only when your acceptance criteria hold. Keep routing and credentials configurable so you can send traffic back to Scrape.do without rebuilding or redeploying an unrelated part of the scraper.
Before removing the old path, confirm that scheduled jobs, webhooks, dashboards, alerts, and support procedures no longer depend on Scrape.do-specific headers, task identifiers, or cost assumptions. Keep a rollback route until the new integration has completed the production scenarios that matter to your workload.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I migrate without changing the scraper’s extracted fields?
Possibly, but field parity is not guaranteed by an HTTP success. Validate the destination’s returned content against your extraction logic using representative pages before routing production traffic.
Does Scrape.do Proxy Mode use a separate subscription from API Mode?
No. Scrape.do documentation says Proxy Mode and API Mode use the same subscription; Proxy Mode is a different access method.
Can I use a screenshot API as a web scraping API replacement?
Not for a general extraction workflow. ScreenshotNeo returns screenshots or PDFs, so it fits visual capture use cases rather than replacing a scraping API’s page-data extraction contract.
