As of October 12, 2026, Microsoft has not reported its October-quarter results. The company is scheduled to release FY2027 Q1 earnings on October 28. Its latest reported Azure and other cloud services growth was 43% in FY2026 Q4, and management’s outlook for the following quarter was approximately 45% Azure growth in constant currency. Those figures make growth above 40% a reasonable question to watch—not a confirmed result or a stated company requirement.
What is known before the October 28 report?
Microsoft Investor Relations lists October 28, 2026, as the date for its FY2027 Q1 earnings release. The report has not been published as of October 12, so there is no October-quarter Azure growth figure to cite yet.
The latest available results and guidance come from Microsoft’s FY2026 Q4 earnings call on July 29, 2026. Microsoft reported 43% growth in Azure and other cloud services revenue for that quarter. For the following quarter, management expected approximately 45% Azure growth in constant currency. The 43% is a reported result; approximately 45% is an outlook, and it uses a constant-currency basis.
Does Microsoft need Azure to grow faster than 40%?
The available evidence does not establish 40% as a formal target, minimum, or analyst-consensus estimate for the October report. It is a useful reference point because Azure’s most recent reported growth was 43% and management’s next-quarter constant-currency outlook was approximately 45%. Whether Azure clears 40% will be one signal of continued momentum, but it should not be treated as a pass-or-fail test on its own.

Microsoft’s FY2026 Q4 call also put the scale of the business in context: Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s chairman and chief executive officer, said Azure had surpassed $100 billion in annual revenue and grown 41% for the fiscal year. That full-year figure describes a different period from the quarterly growth rates.
How the recent Azure growth figures compare
| Period or outlook | Azure and other cloud services growth | Basis and status |
|---|---|---|
| FY2026 Q3 | 40% | Reported result; 39% in constant currency |
| FY2026 Q4 outlook, given on the FY2026 Q3 call | 39% to 40% | Constant-currency outlook |
| FY2026 Q4 | 43% | Reported result |
| Following quarter outlook, given on the FY2026 Q4 call | Approximately 45% | Constant-currency outlook |
The sequence suggests acceleration: Microsoft reported 40% Azure and other cloud services growth in FY2026 Q3, then reported 43% in FY2026 Q4. The comparison is not perfectly like-for-like when one figure is reported growth and another is constant-currency guidance. Currency basis and period matter; neither outlook should be described as a reported result.

Why a result above or below 40% needs context
Capacity can affect when growth appears
Nadella said on the FY2026 Q4 earnings call, “Customer demand continues to exceed available capacity.” Demand that exceeds capacity can support the business outlook, but it does not guarantee a specific quarterly growth rate: the timing of when capacity becomes available matters.

Amy Hood, Microsoft’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, cautioned on the same call: “And as a reminder, year-over-year Azure growth rates can vary quarter-to-quarter based on capacity timing and contract mix.” A change in the reported rate therefore does not, by itself, show that demand has strengthened or weakened by the same amount.

What to check when Microsoft reports
- Start with the reported quarter and measure. Identify the October-quarter Azure and other cloud services growth figure, and distinguish it from any other cloud revenue measures Microsoft reports.
- Compare it with the prior quarter’s result. The reference point is 43% reported Azure and other cloud services growth in FY2026 Q4.
- Compare it with the preceding outlook. Microsoft’s FY2026 Q4 call gave an outlook of approximately 45% Azure growth in constant currency for the following quarter. Keep that guidance separate from the October-quarter reported figure, and note the different currency basis when comparing them.
- Read any constant-currency figure alongside reported growth. If Microsoft provides both, compare each on its own basis rather than treating them as interchangeable.
- Read management’s capacity and contract-mix commentary. Changes in those explanations may help account for quarter-to-quarter variation, but commentary is not a substitute for the reported numbers.
What remains unanswered until release day
The October-quarter result, any updated Azure outlook, and any change in Microsoft’s explanation of demand and capacity are still pending. No reliable, attributable analyst-consensus figure for this report is established here, so 40% should not be presented as market consensus. Microsoft’s October 28 release and accompanying call will provide the next reported result and management context.
