There is no official Microsoft Windows 12 ISO available for public download. Microsoft’s current software-download page offers a Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) for x64 devices, a separate Windows 11 ISO for Arm64 devices, and links to Windows Insider downloads for preview builds. It does not list a Windows 12 ISO.
That distinction matters because files advertised elsewhere as “Windows 12 ISO” are not supported by Microsoft’s current download catalog. They may be renamed Windows 11 images, unofficial modified builds, or files carrying malware.
Is Windows 12 available as an ISO?
No. Microsoft does not currently publish a Windows 12 ISO through its official software-download page. The public download page identifies its full installation image as Windows 11 and currently provides:

Microsoft’s servicing documentation also refers to Windows 11, version 25H2 and describes a later Windows 11, version 26H2 transition. That documentation does not identify the transition as Windows 12. Therefore, a website offering a file specifically labeled “Windows 12 ISO” cannot be treated as offering an official Microsoft release.

What Microsoft currently provides instead
Windows 11 multi-edition ISO
The ordinary public x64 download is a multi-edition ISO. Microsoft does not provide a separate public ISO for every retail edition. The product key determines which edition is unlocked during installation.
To obtain the current public ISO:
- Open Microsoft’s Windows 11 software download page.
- Find the disk-image section and use the Select an edition drop-down.
- Choose the available Windows 11 edition and select Confirm.
- Select the product language, then select Confirm again.
- Download the generated ISO for the required system architecture.
The installation language must match the language selected for the download. Microsoft’s generated download links are valid for 24 hours, so an old link may stop working even if the original page is still available.
During the link-validation step, Microsoft warns: “Do not refresh or select back.” Refreshing the page or using the browser’s Back command cancels the request and may require starting the process again.
x64 and Arm64 downloads are different
Most conventional Intel and AMD Windows PCs use the x64 download. Windows 11 devices based on compatible ARM processors require the separate Arm64 download. Do not assume that an ISO will work on every 64-bit device simply because both x64 and Arm64 use 64-bit software architecture.
To check a PC’s system type, open Settings > System > About. You can also search Windows for System Information and inspect the System Type field.
How Windows 11 servicing relates to the Windows 12 claims
An ISO is a complete operating-system installation image. Microsoft’s servicing model can deliver some later Windows changes in different ways:

This is why a new Windows version or feature transition does not automatically mean Microsoft has released a separately branded Windows 12 ISO. The current Microsoft documentation names the relevant releases as Windows 11 versions, including 25H2 and the described 26H2 transition.
How to install the official ISO without making a USB drive
Mounting the ISO in Windows and running its installer is an upgrade workflow. It is not the same as booting a computer from USB or DVD to perform a clean installation.
- Locate the downloaded ISO in File Explorer.
- Right-click the file and select Properties.
- On the General tab, select Change… beside Opens with:.
- Select Windows Explorer, then select Apply.
- Right-click the ISO and choose Mount.
- Open the new virtual DVD drive in File Explorer.
- Double-click
setup.exeand follow the Windows installation prompts.
Back up important files before starting. The available upgrade choices depend on the existing Windows installation, edition, language, available storage, and hardware compatibility.
How to create Windows installation media
If you need to boot another PC or perform a clean installation, create installation media rather than simply mounting the ISO. Use a blank USB drive or DVD because the media-creation process can delete existing content.
USB media
Microsoft recommends using a blank USB drive for installation-media creation. Copy any files you need from the drive first. The exact creation process depends on the Microsoft tool or other media-writing utility being used, but the result should be a bootable Windows 11 installer made from the official ISO.

DVD media
For a DVD, Microsoft specifies a blank disc with at least 8 GB of capacity and a DVD burner. To expose the built-in burning command:

- Associate the ISO with Windows Explorer using the Properties steps above.
- Right-click the ISO in File Explorer.
- Select Burn disc image.
- Choose the DVD burner and start the burn.
A third-party burner can be opened by right-clicking the ISO and choosing Open with. If Windows reports “disc image file is too large,” Microsoft recommends using a higher-capacity Dual Layer DVD.
How to verify an official ISO download
Before using an ISO, verify its cryptographic hash when Microsoft publishes a matching hash for the exact product and language. In PowerShell, use:
Get-FileHash C:Usersuser1DownloadsContoso8_1_ENT.isoReplace the example path with the actual path to the downloaded file. PowerShell returns a hash value, normally including the SHA-256 result. Compare it with Microsoft’s value for the exact ISO. A mismatch means the file should not be used; download it again from Microsoft rather than trying to repair or rename it.

Treat any “Windows 12 ISO” download as unofficial unless Microsoft publishes a matching product and download link. Common risks include:
- Malware embedded in modified installation media
- Installers that activate unwanted software or services
- Images with disabled security features
- Incorrect or tampered system files
- Unclear licensing and activation behavior
- Unreliable updates after installation
Do not disable antivirus protection or Windows security controls merely to run an unknown ISO. A filename, torrent description, forum post, or video title is not evidence that Microsoft produced the image.
Hardware requirements still apply to Windows 11
Not every Windows 10 PC is eligible for Windows 11. Microsoft specifically states that Windows 10 ownership alone does not establish eligibility; the device must meet the applicable Windows 11 requirements and supported-feature conditions.

The download page states that Windows 11 requires a 64-bit CPU. Check the device specifications before installing. Microsoft warns that installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware can leave the PC unsupported and not entitled to receive updates. Microsoft also states that compatibility-related damage may be excluded from the manufacturer’s warranty.

Enterprise editions are not supplied through the ordinary public ISO selector. Users with the required licensing should sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center. Visual Studio subscribers should use the Visual Studio Subscriptions portal.
What to expect next
Microsoft’s current public information supports Windows 11 installation media and Windows Insider preview channels, not a public Windows 12 ISO. Future branding or releases may change, but the reliable way to confirm that is Microsoft’s own software-download and Windows Insider pages.
Until Microsoft lists a Windows 12 product directly, use the official Windows 11 ISO when you need installation media, and use the Windows Insider site when you intentionally want preview software.
