Microsoft Teams is the stronger fit for organization-wide chat, meetings, calls, and collaboration; Fieldwire is the stronger fit for construction teams coordinating drawings, field tasks, and jobsite documentation. They solve different problems, so the right choice depends on where work is getting stuck—not on which product is universally better.
How are Microsoft Teams and Fieldwire different?
Teams is a general communication and collaboration platform. Microsoft describes it as combining chat, audio and video calls, online meetings, web conferencing, file sharing, collaboration, and extensibility, with close Microsoft 365 integration and a broader partner-app ecosystem. Microsoft Learn’s Teams service overview notes that available features can change.
Fieldwire is organized around construction field workflows. Its plans cover viewing plans, managing tasks, handling specifications and checklists, and storing jobsite photos and files. Higher tiers add more project controls. Fieldwire’s pricing comparison and Business page describe these features.

Is Fieldwire better than Teams for construction?
Fieldwire is the more direct fit when construction teams need plans and field tasks connected to project documentation. Its purpose-built workflow includes task management alongside drawings, specifications, checklists, photos, and files. Teams can support communication around a construction project, but its documented core description does not position it as a construction plan-management product.
#1 Best Overall
Fieldwire’s features depend on the selected tier. Its pricing page lists plan viewing, tasks, specifications, checklists, photos, and files across plans. Business adds custom forms, app integrations, BIM viewing, 360-degree photos, custom task attributes, reporting, exports, and sheet comparison. Business Plus lists RFIs, submittal management, change orders, and budget.
Can Microsoft Teams replace Fieldwire?
Not on the strength of their documented core features alone. Teams provides broad communication and collaboration; Fieldwire connects construction drawings and project documents to field execution. If your team needs assigned field tasks, plan viewing, construction checklists, or formal project controls, compare those requirements against the Fieldwire tier that includes them rather than assuming a general collaboration tool covers the same work.
Some organizations may use both: Teams for conversations and meetings, and Fieldwire for construction information and field workflows. Whether that arrangement is practical depends on the team’s processes and confirmed integration support.

Does Fieldwire integrate with Microsoft Teams?
A direct, named Teams–Fieldwire integration is not established by the vendor pages cited here. Fieldwire’s pricing page says some paid plans include app integrations, but that general statement does not confirm a Teams connection. Check current named integration listings with both vendors before planning a shared workflow; do not assume that files, tasks, or notifications sync between the services.

What do the entry plans include, and what do they cost?
The entry plans are not like-for-like: Teams Essentials is a communications and collaboration plan, while Fieldwire Basic is a construction-focused plan with account and project limits. The following are vendor-page snapshots inspected on October 7, 2026, not guaranteed quotes. Confirm your region, currency, billing cadence, eligibility, taxes, and current plan terms with the vendors.
| Plan | Published price | Published inclusions or limits |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Teams Essentials | $4.00 per user/month, paid yearly; Microsoft listing inspected October 7, 2026 | Chat, calls, video conferencing, real-time collaboration with file sharing, tasks and polling, meeting recordings with transcripts and English live captions, 10 GB cloud storage per user, and encryption for meetings, chats, calls, and files. See Microsoft’s business plan comparison. |
| Fieldwire Basic | $0 per user/month; Fieldwire listing inspected October 7, 2026 | Limited to 5 users, 3 projects, and 100 sheets. See Fieldwire’s pricing comparison. |
| Fieldwire Pro | $39 per user/month, billed annually; Fieldwire listing inspected October 7, 2026 | Paid tier; the pricing table lists unlimited projects and sheets. |
| Fieldwire Business | $64 per user/month, billed annually; Fieldwire listing inspected October 7, 2026 | Paid tier; the pricing table lists unlimited projects and sheets. Adds forms, app integrations, BIM viewing, and other Business features described above. |
| Fieldwire Business Plus | $89 per user/month, billed annually; Fieldwire listing inspected October 7, 2026 | Paid tier; the pricing table lists unlimited projects and sheets. Adds RFIs, submittals, change orders, and budget tools. |
Fieldwire’s paid tiers are priced per user and list unlimited projects and sheets on the pricing page. Compare the tier that includes your required workflows, not just the lowest displayed price. Microsoft also offers Teams through qualifying Microsoft 365 plans or as a standalone SKU, so check whether your existing licensing already covers the capabilities you need.

How should you choose?
Start with recurring work and required controls, then match the plan to that work. Before committing, answer these questions:
- Where do authoritative construction drawings live, and who needs to view them in the field?
- How does a field issue become an assigned, trackable task?
- Where are project checklists, photos, and files stored?
- Do you need forms, BIM viewing, sheet comparison, RFIs, submittals, change orders, or budget tools?
- Which Microsoft 365 licenses, construction systems, identity controls, and integrations does your organization already require?
Then price the specific plans and seat counts that meet those needs. Ask vendors for a quote if regional pricing, contract terms, identity requirements, or integration support are material. Published plan-page amounts can change and should not be treated as a promise of savings or a measure of product performance.
