First identify what is missing: Microsoft Store itself, an app’s Store listing, an item in your library, or a download that will not install. Each points to a different fix. A missing listing does not necessarily mean an app was deleted; Microsoft says region, family settings, compatibility, account or device authorization, publisher removal, and a pending restart can affect what you see or install.
1. If Microsoft Store itself is missing
- Open Start and search for Microsoft Store. If it appears, open it; it may simply have been unpinned. Pin it to Start or the taskbar if you want quick access.
- If it does not appear, check whether you are signed in to Windows with a Microsoft account. Microsoft notes that Store may not be available under a local account.
- On a work-managed PC, ask your administrator whether Store access has been disabled by policy.
These checks address the Store program, not a missing product listing or a download problem.
2. If a particular app or game is missing from the Store
Confirm that you are using the expected Microsoft account, then check the factors that affect whether a product is available or installable:
- Country or region: An app may not be offered where you are.
- Family settings: Family restrictions can affect visibility or access.
- Publisher listing: The publisher may have removed the app from the Store. A historic Store item is not guaranteed to remain downloadable.
- Device compatibility: Microsoft Support says, “Microsoft Store automatically hides or blocks the purchase button on apps that are incompatible with your device.”
- Authorization: The PC must be authorized to use Microsoft Store apps.
- Pending restart: A recent Windows update may require a restart before an installation can proceed.

3. If an owned app or previous download is missing
- Open Microsoft Store and go to My Library.
- Find the app or game. A Download icon indicates that it has not been downloaded yet.
- For a specific Microsoft purchase, check Order history while signed in with the Microsoft account used to buy it.
If you bought software from a third-party retailer, contact that seller for download and product-key details. Microsoft explains how to find and install Microsoft downloads.
4. If Store opens incorrectly or downloads seem stuck
Reset the Store cache
- Press Windows+R to open Run.
- Enter
wsreset.exeand select OK. - A blank Command Prompt window should appear. Microsoft says it closes after about ten seconds, then Microsoft Store opens automatically.
For a Store that will not open, Microsoft also recommends checking for Windows updates and verifying the device’s time and location settings. Follow its Microsoft Store troubleshooting guidance.

5. If an installed app is malfunctioning
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the app, open Advanced options if available, and choose Repair.
- If Repair is unavailable or does not solve the issue, choose Reset if that option is offered.
Repair and Reset are not available for every app. Microsoft’s Windows app repair instructions describe the options.
