There is not enough evidence to say whether Microsoft or NVIDIA is more likely to double an investor’s money from current prices. NVIDIA reported faster fiscal 2026 growth and has more direct exposure to AI computing demand; Microsoft combines cloud and productivity businesses with other lines of business. Those differences matter, but neither company’s recent growth rate tells you what its stock will return. A fair answer needs a time horizon and comparable, current valuation and cash-flow expectations—inputs not established here.
What “double your money” means for a stock
Doubling is an investment return, not a revenue target. An investor who buys shares and later sells them for twice the purchase price has doubled the share-price value before taxes and transaction costs. Total return can also include dividends, typically counted with reinvestment in return calculations. The outcome depends on the price paid, the period held, and what happens to the business and investors’ expectations during that period.
The horizon changes the hurdle substantially. To reach a 2× total return, an investment must compound at roughly 26.0% annually over three years or 14.9% annually over five years. These are arithmetic equivalents of doubling over those periods, not forecasts for either stock; they exclude taxes and fees.

The figures below are company-reported fiscal 2026 results, not forecasts. Microsoft and NVIDIA have different fiscal calendars and business mixes, so the table describes each company’s reported performance rather than a synchronized stock-return comparison.

These figures show that NVIDIA’s reported revenue grew faster in fiscal 2026. They do not show which stock is cheaper, how much future growth is already reflected in its share price, or how much earnings and free cash flow might accrue to each share. Revenue growth alone is not a shareholder-return forecast.
Why the business mix does not decide the stock comparison
Microsoft: a broader business with a large AI investment burden
Microsoft’s cloud and productivity operations provide exposure to AI-related services within a broader business portfolio. The company’s reported Azure scale and Copilot paid-seat count indicate adoption, but do not establish that AI infrastructure spending will earn an adequate return. Infrastructure must be built and operated, and usage must generate revenue and profit sufficient to justify that investment.

NVIDIA: more direct exposure to AI compute demand
NVIDIA’s reported fiscal 2026 growth was tied to accelerated computing and data-center demand, including demand for its Blackwell platform. That gives its results a more direct connection to AI infrastructure spending. It also makes continued customer demand, product pricing and the pace of platform transitions especially important. Strong recent demand is evidence of recent business performance, not assurance that the same growth or margins will continue.

What an investor would need to compare before choosing
A meaningful comparison starts with both stocks measured on the same date and share class. It then tests whether each company’s future results could support the return required over a defined horizon.
- Set the horizon. Decide whether the question is about three years, five years, or another period. A doubling target over a shorter period requires faster compounding.
- Compare starting valuations consistently. Use the same trailing or forward definitions for price-to-earnings and price-to-free-cash-flow measures. No synchronized current multiples are established here, so neither stock can be called cheaper on this evidence.
- Trace growth into per-share results. Consider earnings and free cash flow, share count, reinvestment and capital intensity—not revenue alone. Growth that requires heavy investment does not translate automatically into equivalent growth for shareholders.
- Test the durability of demand and margins. Ask whether cloud and AI customers continue spending, whether capacity can be delivered profitably, and whether competition or alternatives put pressure on demand and prices.
- Consider expectations and downside. Even a strong business can produce disappointing stock returns if it falls short of expectations embedded in its valuation or if growth slows during the chosen period.
Without current, comparable valuation inputs and an explicit method for estimating future earnings, cash flows and risk, assigning one company a higher probability of doubling would be false precision.

Risks that could change the outcome
Microsoft’s capacity, cost and return uncertainties
Microsoft’s FY2026 Form 10-K describes difficulty forecasting AI and cloud demand. Building too much infrastructure can leave capacity underused; building too little can constrain service. The company also identifies uncertainty around training and inference costs, components, energy, competition, pricing and whether product usage will generate returns commensurate with investment. These factors can affect both growth and margins.

NVIDIA’s demand and pricing exposure
NVIDIA’s fiscal 2027 Q2 Form 10-Q warns that lower-than-expected AI compute demand or pricing may reduce revenue. Its FY2026 filing also describes exposure to rapid platform transitions and demand for AI infrastructure. If customers reduce spending, competing products become more attractive, or pricing weakens, strong historical growth may not persist.

Executives’ statements about AI adoption explain how company leaders view their businesses; they are not independent evidence that either stock will double. The same distinction applies to reported customer adoption and revenue milestones: they describe business activity, not a probability of future investment returns.
