To give someone read-only access to a Microsoft Loop page, share that specific page and select a read-only permission if it is available. Do not add the person as a workspace member: workspace members can edit every page in that workspace. The exact sharing choices depend on your organization’s settings, and Loop components shared through Outlook are an important exception because Microsoft says that flow is always editable.
Choose page sharing, not workspace membership
Loop has different sharing scopes. Page or component sharing grants access to a specific page, while workspace membership gives broader access. Microsoft Learn documents page and component sharing with options for edit or read-only access; it also says workspace members have editing permissions to all pages in that workspace.

Microsoft Learn’s Loop permissions overview describes the distinction between page/component sharing and workspace membership. If a person only needs to view one page, share the page rather than inviting them to the workspace.

- Open the page you want to share. Confirm it is the individual page, not a workspace invitation or a component-sharing flow in another app.
- Choose the page’s Share option. Use page-specific sharing so the recipient is not given workspace membership.
- Set the permission to read-only, if offered. Review the permission shown in the sharing dialog before sending the link or invitation. Do not assume that a link is view-only just because it is a link.
- Choose an allowed audience or link type. Microsoft says available company-wide or people-specific links depend on organizational sharing settings. Use only an audience that is appropriate for the recipient and permitted by your organization.
- Send the link or invitation and verify the scope. Check that the recipient has access to the intended page and that the permission shown is read-only rather than edit.
These steps describe the intended page-specific approach, not a universal set of button labels: the exact controls can vary with the Loop surface and tenant configuration. Microsoft’s Learn page, last updated May 14, 2026, describes the available permission choice as edit or read-only for a specific page or component.

What to do if read-only is missing
Sharing choices can be restricted by organization-level policies, external-sharing settings, and guest-account conditions. If you cannot choose read-only, or the intended recipient cannot access the page, check with your Microsoft 365 administrator about the tenant’s sharing policy and the recipient’s guest access.
Microsoft’s general SharePoint file-sharing guidance explains that administrators can restrict sharing options. That guidance concerns SharePoint files and folders, however; it does not establish that every control appears identically for every Loop page or embedded component.

Important exception: Loop components shared through Outlook
Microsoft’s Outlook instructions say Loop components shared through that Outlook flow are always editable. Do not promise a view-only Loop component when using that route. Microsoft also notes that its Outlook permission instructions do not apply to components created through Teams, so do not assume the Outlook behavior or procedure covers Teams components. For a component in another host app, confirm the options shown in that specific sharing flow.
