Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK v2.41.0 introduced an authentication-module isolation change intended to address dependency and assembly conflicts when Microsoft 365 PowerShell modules share a session. A practitioner reported successful delegated connections to Exchange Online, Graph, and Teams with specific module versions on PowerShell 7.6.6, but that is not proof of universal compatibility. As of October 7, 2026, the PowerShell Gallery lists Microsoft.Graph 2.41.1 as current; the practitioner reported that 2.41.1 also fixed a re-import issue found with 2.41.0.

What changed in Microsoft Graph PowerShell 2.41?

The v2.41.0 release says Microsoft.Graph.Authentication was “Completely” isolated to solve dependency issues. The release record, published September 30, 2026, credits Stephan van Rooij (@svrooij) for the contribution. The change targets authentication dependencies that can collide with those loaded by other modules; it does not establish that every assembly conflict in every module combination has been eliminated. See the official v2.41.0 release record.

The Gallery’s package listing is a separate timeline: it lists Microsoft.Graph 2.41.1 as current and says it was last updated October 5, 2026; its version history lists 2.41.0 as last updated September 29. The GitHub release publication date and Gallery package dates refer to different records. Check the Microsoft.Graph 2.41.1 package listing and version history.

Can Graph, Exchange Online, and Teams coexist in one session?

A specific practitioner test provides encouraging but bounded evidence. Tony Redmond reported connecting with delegated access to Exchange Online, Microsoft Graph, and Microsoft Teams in the same session using the following combination:

Component Version used in the report
PowerShell 7.6.6
ExchangeOnlineManagement 3.10.1
Microsoft.Graph.Authentication 2.41.0
MicrosoftTeams 8.0.0

Redmond reported that all three modules connected without the earlier assembly-loading conflicts. This is one practitioner’s test of those versions and delegated connections—not Microsoft certification, a test of every command, or evidence for every runtime and module combination. Read the version-specific practitioner report.

What limitations were reported?

Removing and reimporting the authentication module

The report describes a problem when Microsoft.Graph.Authentication was removed and imported again within the same PowerShell session while using 2.41.0. Redmond says Microsoft.Graph 2.41.1 fixed that import problem. If a workflow unloads and reloads the module, use 2.41.1 rather than assuming the 2.41.0 test covers that sequence.

Older PowerShell 7 versions

The practitioner also said a loading problem on older PowerShell 7 versions remained unresolved; the report attributes no fix for that issue to 2.41.1. The successful test on PowerShell 7.6.6 should therefore not be treated as evidence that older PowerShell 7 releases behave the same way.

Which version and runtime should you use?

For a new installation, the Gallery’s listed current package on October 7, 2026 is Microsoft.Graph 2.41.1. The project distributes the SDK through PowerShell Gallery. It describes the SDK as PowerShell modules that wrap Microsoft Graph API functionality, supporting delegated access on behalf of a user and app-only access using an application identity. When diagnosing a Graph PowerShell assembly conflict or a Microsoft Graph and Exchange module clash, record the actual conditions rather than treating the SDK version alone as the explanation:

  • The installed Microsoft.Graph and Microsoft.Graph.Authentication versions.
  • The PowerShell runtime and version.
  • Which Microsoft 365 modules are imported into the same session, and their versions.
  • Whether the script removes and reimports modules during that session.
  • Whether authentication is delegated or app-only.

The reported coexistence result applies to one specified combination on PowerShell 7.6.6 with delegated connections. If your setup differs, validate the modules and workflow you actually run; the available report does not establish behavior for all such combinations.

Why PowerShell 7 matters to Graph SDK support

In an announcement dated September 16, 2026, Microsoft said it was beginning a 12-month retirement period for Windows PowerShell 5.x support maintenance in Graph PowerShell modules. The announcement said v2.x would continue declaring compatibility with Windows PowerShell 5.1 during that period and, in most cases, continue functioning in existing environments. It also said active development, bug fixes, and validation would target PowerShell 7.x and later, while Windows PowerShell-specific issues would no longer be actively investigated or fixed.

Microsoft’s announcement scheduled v3.0.0 for Q4 2026 and said v3.x would not explicitly support Windows PowerShell 5.x. That is the plan stated in the September announcement, not confirmation here that the scheduled release or retirement period has since been completed. The Graph team’s Barry Gervin, Principal Engineering Manager, and Gavin Barron, Engineering Manager for Microsoft Graph SDKs and Tooling, wrote: “Built on modern .NET, PowerShell 7.x resolves many of the underlying assembly-loading and dependency issues that affect Windows PowerShell 5.x today.” Read Microsoft’s platform-direction announcement.

Do not confuse the assembly fix with the v1-to-v2 migration

The v2.41 authentication isolation change is a v2 release change; it is not a substitute for reviewing breaking changes when moving scripts from SDK v1 to v2. The project’s upgrade guide lists changes including dropped profile support, renamed beta commands, the movement of directory-role and entitlement-management commands to Identity.Governance, a changed beta namespace, and a change to Connect-MgGraph’s AccessToken parameter from String to SecureString. Consult the guide against the scripts you are migrating. Open the official v1-to-v2 upgrade guide.

Should you update?

If your scripts load Graph alongside Exchange Online or Teams, Microsoft.Graph 2.41.1 is the current Gallery package listed as of October 7, 2026, and v2.41.0’s isolation change directly addresses the dependency-conflict class of problem. The strongest reported coexistence evidence is limited to delegated connections on PowerShell 7.6.6 with ExchangeOnlineManagement 3.10.1, Microsoft.Graph.Authentication 2.41.0, and MicrosoftTeams 8.0.0. Check your runtime, module versions, and import lifecycle before treating that result as representative of your environment.
