To see what activity Microsoft associates with your account, start at the Microsoft privacy dashboard. Then review Windows settings for diagnostic data, personalized offers, advertising ID, and locally stored activity history. These controls do different jobs: clearing visible account data is not the same as changing future collection or personalization, and no single switch deletes every record.
What Microsoft may show about your account
Sign in to the privacy dashboard with the Microsoft account you use with the relevant products. Depending on your sign-in and product use, region, settings, and service availability, the dashboard may include Bing or Cortana searches, Microsoft Edge browsing, location, voice, media, and app or service activity. Microsoft Support describes it as showing data Microsoft has collected and provides tools to view and clear available activity and manage settings.
Not seeing an item is not proof that no related data exists. Microsoft says activity may be absent because you were not signed in, did not use the feature, the service or data is unavailable in your region or on the dashboard, or processing has not finished. Edge browsing activity can depend on history sync and personalized advertising or experiences settings; search activity depends on Bing sign-in or Cortana-related use. When you clear an activity category, Microsoft says the data is removed from the dashboard and its removal from Microsoft systems begins. That wording does not promise immediate or universal erasure.

Personal account or work/school account?
The dashboard is most useful for activity tied to a personal Microsoft account. For a work or school account, the organization controls much of the data, including email, documents, and other files. Contact your IT administrator about organizational data. Microsoft says data not available in the dashboard or a product may be requested from its privacy team; details are in Accessing your data.
Change Windows diagnostic-data settings
Diagnostic data controls are separate from the account dashboard. In Windows 11, open Settings > Privacy & security > Diagnostics & feedback. In Windows 10, the documented path is Settings > Privacy > Diagnostics & feedback. Choose the diagnostic-data options and review Tailored experiences. Some choices may be unavailable on a device managed by an organization.

Diagnostic Data Viewer shows data available while the viewer is running; it does not provide diagnostic-data history. The Windows Delete diagnostic data action is device-level: Microsoft says it does not delete diagnostic data associated with your Microsoft account and does not stop future diagnostic data from being sent. Decide whether Windows should personalize offers
On Windows 11, find Settings > Privacy & security > Personalized offers. When enabled, Windows may use required diagnostic data and, if shared, optional diagnostic data, along with account and other Microsoft product or service information, to personalize tips, ads, and recommendations. Turn it off if you do not want that form of personalization; it is not a tool for deleting historical data. What the advertising ID switch does—and does not do
The advertising ID setting applies to apps that use the Windows advertising identifier. Turning it off does not reduce the number of ads; Microsoft says ads may be less relevant. The setting does not govern other interest-based advertising methods, such as cookies or some third-party products.
Windows interface labels can vary. Newer Windows 11 versions are replacing the older General privacy settings page with Recommendations & offers. Check the labels on your installed version rather than assuming an older path is still present. Review locally stored activity history
On Windows 11, open Settings > Privacy & security > Activity history. Activity history is currently described as locally stored. You can stop Windows from saving it on the device and clear what is stored there. Turning off local storage may affect features that rely on activity history, including Timeline.
The option to send activity history to Microsoft was deprecated in specified Windows 11 23H2 and 22H2 updates dated January 23, 2024; older, unupdated versions may still differ. Details are in Windows activity history and your privacy.

Windows 10 support status
Microsoft says Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. After that date, Microsoft no longer provides free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10. Support status and applicable programs may vary; see Microsoft’s Windows privacy guidance for the cited support information.

A practical order for reviewing the controls
- Confirm the account. Sign in to the privacy dashboard with the account used for the activity you want to inspect.
- Review and selectively clear visible categories. Check what is present before using a clear control; clearing starts removal but is not an instant-erasure guarantee.
- Separate organizational data. For work or school data, ask the organization’s IT administrator about access and control.
- Review device settings individually. Check Diagnostics & feedback, Personalized offers, the advertising ID control, and Activity history. Choose each based on whether you want to limit future sharing or personalization, and whether you rely on related features.
