Microsoft 365 Family can be an inexpensive way for several people to get cloud storage and Office apps, but it is not proven to be “the cheapest terabyte in tech.” In the US, the plan costs $129.99 per year or $12.99 per month and gives each of up to six people a separate 1 TB OneDrive allocation. Whether that is good value depends on how many people use the plan and whether they also want its apps and other benefits.
How much does Microsoft 365 Family cost per person?
Microsoft lists US pricing of $129.99 per year or $12.99 per month for Family. The annual plan renews automatically unless canceled, and prices can change. The following per-terabyte figures are arithmetic based on Microsoft’s listed annual price and maximum capacity; they are not published Microsoft statistics.
- One person: $129.99 a year for that person’s 1 TB allocation, plus the subscription’s apps and other benefits.
- Six people: about $21.67 per allocated TB-year if all six use their individual 1 TB allocations.
The six-person calculation is not the price of a shared 6 TB storage pool. Each person has a separate allocation, and a single member cannot use the other members’ storage as extra capacity.

Yes. The plan supports one to six people, with up to 1 TB of personal OneDrive storage for each person. The subscription owner invites other people to share benefits; Microsoft’s support guidance says, “The owner of a Microsoft 365 Family, Premium and Pro subscription can share their benefits with up to five people.” See Microsoft’s subscription-sharing guidance.

Is Microsoft 365 Family cheaper than Personal?
For one person seeking 1 TB, no. Microsoft lists Personal at $99.99 per year or $9.99 per month for one person with 1 TB, making it the lower-priced Microsoft plan for that use. Family costs more, so its value for a solo subscriber depends on whether the additional benefits justify the difference.

What comes with the storage?
Family is a bundle, not a storage-only plan. Microsoft lists Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Defender, and other features. Some Copilot and AI benefits are limited to the subscription owner rather than shared with family members. Feature availability can vary by platform and region, so check Microsoft’s plan details for the service and devices you use.

Is Microsoft 365 Family worth it for OneDrive storage?
It can be a strong bundle for a household where multiple people want both their own cloud storage and the included apps. At full six-person use, the annual subscription’s allocated-storage arithmetic comes to about $21.67 per person-year for each person’s 1 TB allocation; that figure does not assign a separate value to the apps, security, or other benefits.

If only one person needs 1 TB, Personal is the less expensive Microsoft option. Family may still suit a solo buyer who values its wider set of benefits, but storage alone does not make it the cheaper choice.

Not on the available evidence. Establishing a market-wide “cheapest” claim would require current, comparable prices across providers and equivalent terms for storage, sharing, software, security, and renewals. Microsoft’s published prices support a comparison among its own plans, not a ranking of every cloud-storage or software bundle. A low per-person figure for six users is meaningful only when all six can use the separate allocations and value the bundle.
