If the METRO Redux upgrade will not install on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, first check the release date: as of October 3, 2026, it has not launched. PLAION schedules the free console update for October 29, 2026 worldwide, with Japan scheduled for November. Existing owners of either eligible game do not need to buy it again.
Check whether the update is available yet
PLAION schedules the METRO Redux update for October 29, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S worldwide; Japan is scheduled for November. Deep Silver’s announcement also gives October 29 for consoles. Since the update is not out as of October 3, 2026, an install option that is missing before release does not by itself indicate a problem with your console or game ownership.
The schedule differs by platform: PLAION lists October 22 for Steam, Epic, and GOG on PC, while Windows Store is scheduled for October 29. Those PC dates do not make the console update available earlier. Deep Silver’s announcement and PLAION’s support FAQ provide the published timing.

Confirm you own an eligible game
The free update applies to existing owners of METRO 2033 Redux and METRO Last Light Redux. New players receive the next-gen update automatically when they buy either game. If you already own one of them, you do not need to repurchase it or look for a more expensive upgrade edition. PLAION says the upgrade is for both titles.

PLAION describes the release as a quality-of-life update, not a remake or remaster, and says it is not a port to the current 4A Engine. Its FAQ explicitly says ray tracing is not included. The update’s announced enhancements include 4K textures, improved animation fidelity, higher-quality audio, richer environmental detail, and community-led bug fixes and quality-of-life changes. What to do after the console update is released
Once October 29 arrives, use this sequence before trying more disruptive troubleshooting:

- Check the platform store or game library. Look for the eligible title and an available update after the release date. On PS5, Sony’s published route is Games home > Game Library > Your Collection; select the game and choose Download. Add-ons, if relevant, appear in the game’s Add-Ons section.
- Verify the owning account. Sign in to the PlayStation or Xbox account that owns the game. If you use a disc, make sure it is inserted and that you are using the account and console setup associated with that copy.
- Record the exact problem. Note the full error text or code, whether the download is missing, stalls, or fails, and when it happens. A screenshot can help support staff identify the issue.
- Use official platform help. For PlayStation, consult Sony’s game download and add-on troubleshooting guides. For Xbox, preserve the displayed error and consult current Xbox Support guidance; a specific Xbox troubleshooting path for this Metro update has not been established.
If the game installs on PS5 but will not start
Sony’s general PlayStation guidance—not Metro-specific fixes—suggests working through these checks:

- If game data is on USB extended storage, move it to the console’s internal storage.
- Restart the console and check that its system software is current.
- Restore licenses, then try deleting and redownloading the game; Sony recommends a wired connection for the download where possible.
- If the issue remains, use Safe Mode to clear the cache or rebuild the database.
For more detail, follow Sony’s game launch troubleshooting guidance. When contacting PlayStation Support, provide any error code, what happens, the steps that reproduce the issue, and a screenshot or video if available.

What is not confirmed yet
Deep Silver has announced native console support for PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S, along with features including PSSR on PS5 Pro, TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing on Xbox Series X, spatial audio on Xbox, Adaptive Triggers on DualSense, and Impulse Triggers on Xbox controllers. It says console players can experience true 4K at 60 FPS or upscaled 4K at 120 FPS with suitable display hardware. These are advance feature details, not a complete troubleshooting guide; full technical patch notes are promised at launch. Read Deep Silver’s announcement.
Until the update is released and its patch notes are available, there are no verified Metro-specific post-launch installation fixes to recommend. If the update is out and the standard platform guidance does not resolve the error, keep the exact message and report it through the relevant official support channel rather than relying on an unverified workaround.
