Meta did not announce a game-free headset: it says Meta VR Glasses will launch with more than 75 games playable by hand gestures, with hundreds more streamable through Xbox Cloud Gaming. The criticism behind “forgot about the games” is about the reveal’s emphasis, not the existence of a library: PCWorld’s September 29, 2026, account says games received little attention in Meta’s presentation.
Why the reveal drew the “forgot about the games” criticism
In its September 29, 2026 feature, PCWorld argued that Meta’s reveal foregrounded hardware and entertainment rather than gaming. Its account says the headset segment showed Beat Saber only briefly and the trailer did not mention games. That is an assessment of the marketing, not proof that the product lacks games.
Meta’s September 23 announcement did include a gaming offer. The distinction matters: the company has described a planned library, but that does not independently verify the eventual launch catalog or how prominently games will feature in the finished product.
What Meta announced about games
Meta says more than 75 games will be playable at launch using hand gestures alone. It also says users will be able to stream hundreds more through Xbox Cloud Gaming. These are forward-looking company claims, not a verified launch-day catalog; Meta has not established in that announcement that cloud gaming is bundled with the headset or a subscription.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The announced device is called Meta VR Glasses. Meta describes it as a glasses-form-factor cinema, workspace, and gaming console, with a separate compute, battery, and storage puck. The company says it weighs about 100 grams and uses micro-OLED displays. Those are Meta’s specifications, not independent measurements. Meta announced a US price of $1,299.99 and a spring 2027 sale window; both remain plans that could change before retail launch. Details are in Meta’s product announcement.
How games are controlled
Eyes and hand gestures are the primary inputs, and Meta says basic interaction does not require controllers. Its developer guidance says Touch Plus controllers are supported but sold separately, and Meta expects most customers not to use them.

Meta distinguishes casual and social play, which it considers suited to eyes and hands, from experiences involving virtual locomotion or gun-based play, where controllers may be a better fit. That is useful guidance for judging the device’s intended interaction style, but it is not a game-by-game compatibility list. See Meta’s developer guidance.

Meta says the glasses share Quest’s operating system, store, payment platform, and SDKs. UploadVR goes further, reporting that every Quest game will be playable on the new device. Treat those as distinct claims: shared software and store infrastructure comes from Meta, while the broad “every game” compatibility claim is UploadVR’s reporting, not an official compatibility list cited here.
