Meta has reportedly begun restricting advertisements and paid marketing messages placed on its platforms by ByteDance in seven countries. Reuters reported the move, citing Bloomberg News, but said it could not independently verify the report; Meta had not immediately responded to Reuters’ request for comment.
What the reported restriction covers
The reported action concerns ads and paid marketing messages placed on Meta platforms by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok. Reuters’ account does not identify which Meta services are affected, so it does not establish whether the restriction applies to Facebook, Instagram, or every Meta platform.
The report names these seven countries: the United States, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam. It does not describe different rules or implementation details for any of those markets.

This is a reported restriction, not a publicly confirmed Meta policy in the available account. Reuters attributed the information to Bloomberg News and said it could not independently verify it. Reuters also reported that Meta had not immediately responded to its request for comment at the time of publication. Reuters

The report does not give a rationale for the restriction, specify when it began in each country, or explain whether it is temporary or permanent. It also leaves open how Meta would treat ByteDance affiliates, agencies, or other advertisers acting on the company’s behalf.
Can TikTok advertise on Facebook or Instagram?
The report does not name specific Meta apps. It therefore does not establish whether TikTok advertising is restricted on Facebook or Instagram individually, or whether the reported action applies across all Meta platforms. Nor does it clarify whether the restriction covers only ads booked directly by ByteDance or paid marketing messages placed through intermediaries.

Why the headline should be read cautiously
Although the reported list spans North America, Africa, and Asia, the available account offers no country-by-country explanation or evidence of a broader worldwide policy. The headline should not be taken as confirmation that Meta announced a permanent ban or that all ByteDance-related advertising is blocked everywhere.
