Meta says Quest 2 is no longer available for purchase directly from its product page, which now promotes Quest 3S. That does not prove every retailer has sold out, but it means Quest 2 is best considered as a used or remaining-stock headset. It remains an all-in-one VR device that can also connect to a PC for VR; whether it is a good buy now depends on the condition and price of the specific unit, its fit, and whether it supports the apps you want.
Availability: Meta has moved on to Quest 3S
Meta’s Quest 2 product page says, “Meta Quest 2 is no longer available,” and directs shoppers toward Quest 3S. This establishes that Meta is no longer selling Quest 2 directly through that page; it does not establish that all retailers are out of new stock. Meta has not stated a Quest 2 software or security-support end date on the cited page.
This review therefore treats Quest 2 as a used or remaining-stock purchase, not as a current-generation headset. Local availability and used prices vary, and no reliable price range is established here. Compare the full asking price—including any needed accessories—with the cost of a current alternative before deciding.
What Quest 2 is—and what its hardware means now
Quest 2 is a self-contained VR headset: it can run compatible Quest experiences without a gaming PC. Meta’s September 2020 launch announcement described it as powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 with 6 GB of RAM. Those are launch-era manufacturer specifications, not evidence that its performance matches newer headsets or that every current app remains compatible.

For model identification and repair reference, iFixit lists model KW49CM, a weight of 503 g, a Snapdragon XR2 processor, 6 GB of RAM, and 1832 × 1920 pixels per eye. It reports refresh rates up to 120 Hz. These are secondary specifications; Meta’s launch announcement, by contrast, described 90 Hz at launch in specified system applications through experimental settings and said it expected to extend 90 Hz to developers. The launch statement is not a complete record of later firmware behavior.
iFixit also notes that Quest 2 does not support Oculus Go apps, unlike the original Quest’s compatibility with those apps. App support can change over time, so check the compatibility information for the particular games or experiences you plan to use rather than assuming an old library will work.

Fit, lenses, and comfort
Meta said Quest 2 was slimmer and more than 10% lighter than the original Quest, and included three physical positions for adjusting lens spacing. IPD, or interpupillary distance, is the distance between the centers of your pupils; setting the lenses closer to your own IPD can help align the image. iFixit gives the three positions as 58, 63, and 68 mm.
Those specifications do not guarantee comfort. Head shape, facial interface condition, strap adjustment, glasses, and personal sensitivity all affect fit. When buying used, try the headset on if possible, confirm that the lenses are clear and undamaged, and check that the adjustment mechanism and strap hold their position. Inspect the facial interface for wear and cleanliness; replacing it may add to the cost.

Meta named the Elite Strap with Battery and Fit Pack as Quest 2 accessories. Meta’s launch announcement claimed the battery-equipped strap delivered “double the playtime,” along with improved balance and ergonomics. That is a manufacturer claim from 2020, not an independent battery test or a guarantee for a used battery. Check the exact accessory’s compatibility and condition before buying.
Standalone play and PC VR
Standalone use is the central convenience: compatible Quest content runs on the headset itself, without a PC connection. Meta also described Oculus Link support for PC VR, giving owners a way to connect Quest 2 to a capable gaming PC. A PC and any required connection equipment are separate from the headset; Link is an optional use case, not a requirement for standalone play.

Meta’s 2020 announcement said third-party cable compatibility had been improved, but it does not verify any particular cable model or establish current PC requirements. Check Meta’s current connection instructions and the PC and cable requirements for the software you intend to use before purchasing a cable. Meta’s current device comparison describes Link by cable or Air Link for Quest 3 and Quest 3S, but does not list Quest 2; that omission alone does not establish that Quest 2 Link support has ended.

- Lenses and display: Look for scratches, cracks, dead pixels, or image defects. Test both lenses and confirm the image is clear at your normal fit.
- Controllers: Check both controllers for cracks, sticking buttons, damaged battery compartments, and reliable tracking.
- Battery and charging: Confirm the headset charges and runs unplugged. A seller’s estimate of runtime is not a verified battery-health measurement.
- Fit and accessories: Confirm the strap, facial interface, charger, and any advertised battery strap or Fit Pack are present and in usable condition. Price replacement items into the total.
- Account and reset: Ask the seller to remove their account and reset the headset so you can complete setup with your own account. Check that the device can reach the setup process before the return window closes.
- Returns: Prefer a seller with clear return terms, especially if you cannot test the headset before paying.
There is no verified used-price range or support end date here, so neither a bargain threshold nor a remaining-support lifespan can be stated responsibly. Confirm regional stock and prices yourself, and check current support and app-compatibility information for the specific content you need.
Quest 2 or Quest 3S?
Meta currently promotes Quest 3S from the Quest 2 page, making it the natural current alternative to consider. The available product information cited here does not provide a complete, current Quest 2-versus-3S comparison of specifications or regional prices, so it would be misleading to claim a specific performance advantage or price difference on that basis alone.
Compare the actual new and used prices where you live, the apps you intend to run, display and passthrough features, PC VR options, fit, battery condition, and the manufacturer’s current support policy. A used Quest 2 makes the most sense when its condition and total cost are attractive to you and it meets your particular software needs; if those conditions are uncertain, compare it directly with a new headset before buying.
