Meta Muse is designed to do more than answer questions: it can work through a browser and connected services, continue tasks in the background, and ask for approval before certain actions. A TechRadar reviewer found its shopping search useful, but that single demonstration does not establish consistent performance. Meta itself says Muse can make mistakes, and a reported message-access incident remains unexplained. The fairest verdict is that Muse shows practical promise, not that it is ready to run your digital life unsupervised.
What can Meta Muse actually do?
Meta introduced Muse on September 8, 2026, as a personal AI agent powered by Muse Spark. Meta says people can message it in a dedicated app or WhatsApp, assign tasks, and let it keep working after they close the app. Its announced examples include sending email, booking travel, filling out forms, negotiating online, and making purchases subject to user approval. Those are Meta’s descriptions of intended capabilities, not independent proof that every task works reliably. Meta’s launch announcement presents Muse as a system that can take action rather than merely return an answer.
That distinction matters. An answer-generating chatbot can be wrong; an agent that interacts with accounts and websites can also take consequential actions. Meta says Muse can continue tasks in the background and return to the user when a task changes or needs approval. The value of that design depends not just on whether Muse can make progress, but on whether the user can see and control what it is doing. Meta’s security account describes approval requests in the client interface and a browser the user can observe or take over.
What evidence suggests Muse is capable?
TechRadar reviewer Eric Hal Schwartz reported asking Muse to find shorts. Muse asked for his size, browsed for several minutes, returned options, identified a sale, and requested his Amazon login before moving forward. Schwartz described delegating the search as pleasant, while noting the pause at the point of purchase. This is a useful example of a task carried through several steps, but it is one reviewer’s reported experience—not a controlled test of accuracy, repeatability, or performance across users. TechRadar’s hands-on account also captures the practical trade-off: the agent can save effort, but account access and a human checkpoint remain part of the process.

Can Muse buy things for me?
Meta lists purchases among Muse’s intended tasks, with user approval required. In the reported shopping example, Muse found options and a sale, then requested login information rather than completing a purchase on its own. That is evidence of a shopping workflow reaching an approval or access boundary, not evidence that Muse can safely or successfully complete arbitrary purchases. Treat any purchase request as a decision point: inspect the item, seller, price, delivery details, and the specific action being authorized before proceeding.
Does Muse keep working when I close the app?
Meta says users can leave Muse working and return when the task changes or requires approval. This is a product-design claim from Meta, not a guarantee that every task continues uninterrupted or finishes successfully. For tasks with meaningful consequences, check the agent’s activity and respond to approval prompts rather than assuming that background work is complete or correct.

Is Meta Muse safe to connect to my accounts?
Meta’s technical description names several safeguards: an isolated runtime, separately stored credentials, connector workers scoped to particular services, and Sentinel, which Meta says decides whether connector actions and network access are allowed. Meta also says approval requests appear in the client, and that users can watch or take over the browser. These details describe Meta’s security architecture; they are not an independent assurance that every safeguard will work in every situation. Meta’s clearest limitation is its own sentence: “Like any AI system, Muse will sometimes make mistakes.” Meta’s technical post is the source for both the safeguards and that warning.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThere is an inherent trade-off in connecting services: broader access may let an agent handle more tasks, but it also places more private information and authority within reach of the system. TechRadar’s reviewer found the shopping task useful and still reported discomfort with granting extensive account access. Connect only the services needed for a task, understand what access is being granted, and avoid treating an approval prompt as a formality.

What went wrong with Muse reading messages?
Tom’s Hardware reported that journalist Jason Aten said Muse referred to context from messages he had not authorized it to read. According to the account, Muse attributed its knowledge to incoming notifications on the Mac app; Aten questioned that explanation. The report does not establish the technical cause, nor does it prove that Muse accesses all users’ messages. It is a specific, unresolved allegation—not a confirmed description of universal behavior. Tom’s Hardware’s report provides the details and the uncertainty surrounding the incident.
A separate concern came from Tom’s Guide, which reported that researcher Karan Joshi extracted internal instructions describing an hourly process that could create “a page for every person in the user’s life.” The same article says Meta pointed to memory deletion, disconnecting external services, and an activity log as controls. That reporting concerns extracted instructions and controls described by Meta; it does not independently validate how the system operates in practice. Tom’s Guide’s account is the basis for those claims.

Who can use Muse, and where?
The Associated Press reported that access at launch was limited to adults 18 and older in the United States, through a separate app or WhatsApp. Those are launch-era details reported on September 8, 2026, not a promise about availability today. Check Meta’s current product information and app availability for your location before relying on that eligibility. The AP’s launch report gives the dated access context.
What the Muse evidence does—and does not—show
Meta has also published figures for Muse Realtime Avatar, a separate system capability that should not be mistaken for the performance of the personal agent. Meta reports 448 × 768 portrait video at 25 frames per second, with about 870 milliseconds from the end of a user’s turn to the first byte of synchronized voice-and-video response. It also reports eight times the serving capacity of a stated two-step BF16 baseline and 12 concurrent real-time video sessions on one GB200. These are figures from Meta AI Research’s description of its internal system, not independent benchmarks of Muse’s browsing, shopping, or task completion. Meta says its rater comparison favored Muse Realtime Avatar overall and across evaluated dimensions against Runway Characters and HeyGen LiveAvatar; the mannerism comparison with Runway was not statistically distinguishable from parity. The reviewed post provides no numerical overall preference percentage, and Meta notes that not all examples correspond to avatars available in the app. Meta’s Realtime Avatar post documents the figures and their scope.

Taken together, the available evidence supports a measured assessment: Muse has demonstrated a useful multi-step shopping search, and Meta describes a broader agent designed to act across services. But the hands-on evidence cited here is limited, Meta acknowledges mistakes, and the message-access allegation remains unresolved. That is enough to make Muse worth watching, not enough to treat it as a dependable or risk-free delegate.
