Meross advertises configurable detection zones and broad smart-home compatibility, but its published range and battery-life figures are specifications—not independent performance results. This review assesses what the product offers and what you need to use it; real-room detection reliability has not been independently verified here.
What the MS605 does—and what is not yet proven
The MS605 is designed to report occupancy-related presence and motion, plus ambient light, to a compatible smart-home setup. Meross says its product page supports three independently configurable detection zones. That combination could help distinguish activity in different parts of a room, but the available evidence does not establish how reliably those zones work in practice, how quickly readings update, or how often the sensor produces false triggers.
Meross lists 24 GHz ISM radar, infrared motion detection and ambient-light sensing. The manufacturer’s MS605 listing supplies the feature and hardware specifications; the independent review page surfaced for this model does not provide enough established test conditions here to support specific performance conclusions.
Does it detect someone sitting still?
Meross markets the MS605 as a presence sensor and specifies a shorter presence range than its motion range. That is not enough to verify that it will consistently detect a person sitting still in a particular room. Room layout, placement and other conditions matter, and no controlled stationary-presence test result is established here. Treat reliable detection of a seated or otherwise still person as something to confirm in your own setup rather than a guaranteed outcome.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Detection range: Meross’s published figures
Meross’s undated range FAQ, accessed in 2026, specifies presence detection up to 4 m and motion detection up to 6 m. It gives approximate detection angles of 130° for presence and 100° for motion. These are vendor specifications, not independently measured results, and should not be read as a guarantee for every placement or room. See Meross’s MS605 detection-range FAQ.
Connectivity, hubs and smart-home compatibility
The MS605 communicates over Matter on Thread. Meross says Bluetooth is used for initial setup in its app; third-party Matter use then requires a compatible Matter platform and Thread Border Router, such as a compatible hub or speaker. A Meross hub is not required for that third-party Matter connection. Meross’s platform FAQ and Thread sensor overview explain the stated platform and network requirements.

Does the MS605 work with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings or Home Assistant?
Meross lists Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant as Matter/Thread platforms for the MS605. Actual sensor readings and automation options can differ by platform. In particular, Meross says Alexa does not currently support using the MS605’s light-sensor reading for the described automation. Check the platform’s available Matter sensor properties before choosing the device for a specific automation.
When is a Meross hub needed?
For third-party Matter use, Meross says a Meross hub is unnecessary if you already have compatible Matter-and-Thread infrastructure. Its FAQ says advanced functions in the Meross app, including automations and remote control, require a Meross hub. The product page and FAQ differ on hub timing, so no availability date is stated here.

The MS605 is most worth considering if you want a battery-powered Matter-over-Thread sensor, already have compatible Thread infrastructure, and value its advertised zone configuration. Factor in the need for a Thread Border Router if you lack one. If dependable seated-person detection, rapid response, low false-trigger rates or a particular platform’s access to zone and illuminance data is essential, published specifications alone do not settle those questions.
Verdict
The Meross MS605 has a useful combination of radar, infrared motion and ambient-light sensing, along with advertised three-zone configuration and a battery-powered form. Its Thread-based Matter setup is not hub-free in the broad sense: third-party use still needs compatible Matter-and-Thread infrastructure, while Meross app advanced features have a separate hub requirement. The range, battery-life and environmental figures remain manufacturer claims; without comparable room testing, this is a qualified recommendation based on specifications and setup requirements rather than a hands-on performance verdict.
