Is MediaTek making a Windows laptop chip? A June 12, 2024 report by AnandTech said the company was working on an Arm-based processor for Windows PCs. That was reporting about development, not a MediaTek product announcement: the cited sources do not establish a chip name, complete specifications, launch date, price, or a Windows PC powered by the chip.
What the report says—and what it does not confirm
AnandTech reported the MediaTek project in the context of Qualcomm’s reported end of exclusivity for Arm-based Windows processors. The article described work on a Windows PC processor; it did not announce a retail product or provide enough detail to identify a finished chip or computer.
MediaTek’s 2023 fourth-quarter earnings-call transcript also contains management discussion about Windows on Arm and when that opportunity might generate revenue. The cited discussion supplies context, but not a product launch date or retail details. Taken together, these sources support describing a reported development—not saying that a MediaTek Windows processor has launched or is confirmed for sale.
Why Qualcomm and Copilot+ PCs are part of the story
When Microsoft introduced Copilot+ PCs on May 20, 2024, it named Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Series as the initial Arm-based platform and said the chips delivered 45 NPU TOPS. That figure belongs to Snapdragon X, not to a MediaTek processor. Microsoft’s announcement also quoted Yusuf Mehdi, its Executive Vice President and Consumer Chief Marketing Officer, calling Windows’ app implementation “the best” on “the fastest chip, starting with Qualcomm.” This was Microsoft’s launch-era characterization, not an independent performance comparison.

Qualcomm’s May 2024 launch statement called Snapdragon X the exclusive platform for Copilot+ PCs at that time. That statement concerns the launch period and Copilot+ PCs; it should not be treated as proof of present-day exclusivity across all Arm-based Windows computers.
MediaTek silicon in other devices is not proof of a Windows PC chip
Microsoft has announced MediaTek SoC support in its Device Ecosystem Platform (MDEP), a platform for IoT and embedded applications. The announcement includes Genio 510, and Microsoft’s supported-models page also lists MT8195. These are separate device-platform facts; they do not establish Windows PC compatibility or confirm a MediaTek laptop processor.

What is known about compatibility and specifications
Microsoft’s Windows on Arm documentation describes a system-on-chip as integrating components such as a CPU, GPU, connectivity, and NPU. But the documentation and cited support information do not establish a MediaTek Windows PC processor. Microsoft’s Windows 11 version 24H2 processor-support page lists Qualcomm processors in the material reviewed; that alone is not a claim about what Microsoft may support in a later release. Check Microsoft’s current compatibility documentation for the relevant Windows version before relying on a processor-support claim.
No cited source establishes the reported MediaTek chip’s model, CPU or GPU design, NPU capability, application or driver support, performance, battery life, price, or availability. In particular, the 45 NPU TOPS figure for Snapdragon X cannot be used to infer MediaTek performance.

When could a MediaTek Windows laptop arrive?
The cited reporting and earnings-call discussion provide no launch date. They also do not name a PC maker, finished device, or retail listing. Any specific arrival window or claim that a particular laptop will use the processor would go beyond what these sources establish.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How might it compare with Snapdragon?
There is not enough product-level evidence to compare a MediaTek Windows processor with Qualcomm Snapdragon on speed, graphics, battery life, price, availability, or compatibility. A meaningful comparison would require identified chips and devices, matched testing conditions, and clear separation between independent test results and manufacturer claims. For a buyer, the practical questions would include supported Windows features and drivers, native Arm app availability, graphics capability, battery performance under comparable use, and the computer’s price.
