If you want an AI coding assistant to inspect frontend browser-console messages, @browser-echo/mcp is the closest match to an MCP server for browser console logs in the available documentation. It exposes captured logs to an MCP client, but it is not a standalone browser-capture tool: you must also configure a Browser Echo framework integration to forward logs. For Next.js 16+ development diagnostics, Vercel’s separate Next.js DevTools MCP may fit better.
What a browser-console MCP server does
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) lets an MCP client—such as a coding assistant—call tools exposed by a server. In this case, the useful workflow is asking the assistant to inspect frontend console output, filter it, search for a warning, or clear the current log buffer. Browser Echo’s project README documents that purpose for @browser-echo/mcp: examples include checking frontend logs, showing recent errors, finding hydration mismatch warnings, and clearing logs. These are documented capabilities and sample prompts, not independently tested results. Browser Echo project README.
The name “MCP server for browser console” does not identify a unique product. Browser Echo is the closest direct match in the project documentation referenced here; it should not be taken as the only possible tool with that description.
How Browser Echo gets console logs to an MCP client
The important architectural detail is that the MCP package and the browser-log forwarding integration do different jobs. The framework integration captures or forwards browser logs into Browser Echo’s ingest path; the MCP server then makes those logs available to an MCP client. Installing only @browser-echo/mcp does not, according to the README, provide a complete browser-capture system.

Use the integration appropriate to the app and follow its project documentation for framework-specific installation and forwarding configuration. The README also describes forwarding through a browser POST to an ingest endpoint and through the BROWSER_ECHO_MCP_URL environment variable. The exact integration and transport details can differ by framework, so do not assume one setup snippet applies unchanged to every app.
Set up Browser Echo with stdio
Browser Echo’s README documents launching the server with npx @browser-echo/mcp and provides client-specific configuration examples for Cursor, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, VS Code/Copilot, and Windsurf. In stdio mode, the MCP client starts the server process and communicates with it over standard input and output.
- Install and configure the Browser Echo framework integration for your application so frontend logs are forwarded.
- Open the MCP configuration for your chosen client. Use that client’s documented configuration format; the exact file location and JSON shape are client-specific.
- Configure the command as
npxwith the argument@browser-echo/mcp, following the client’s syntax. - Restart or reload the MCP client so it starts the server.
- Run the application, generate a browser-console message, and ask the assistant to inspect logs. If there are no results, verify forwarding before troubleshooting the MCP client.
The project documents these client examples, but configuration keys and file paths may change between client versions. Use the current instructions in the project README rather than copying a configuration for a different client.
Use Browser Echo over HTTP
The README also documents HTTP mode with npx @browser-echo/mcp --http, plus optional host and port settings. Its example local MCP endpoint is http://127.0.0.1:5179/mcp. Treat that address as a documented example, not a universal endpoint: the host and port depend on the command options and your environment.

- Start the server with
npx @browser-echo/mcp --http, adding host or port options if needed. - Configure an MCP client to connect to the HTTP endpoint you actually started. For the README’s example settings, the endpoint is
http://127.0.0.1:5179/mcp. - Configure the framework integration to forward browser logs to the server, using the documented ingest path or
BROWSER_ECHO_MCP_URLas appropriate. - Generate a new console event and query it from the MCP client.
HTTP mode can be useful when the server and client do not use the same process-managed stdio connection. It does not remove the framework-forwarding prerequisite: logs still need a path from the browser application to the server.
Read, filter, search, and clear logs
Browser Echo documents a get_logs tool that can return logs and filter them by severity, session, text, and time. Example requests in its README include:
- Ask for recent logs to inspect the current output.
- Filter to error or warning severity when you want to reduce unrelated messages.
- Specify a session ID to isolate one session.
- Search for a term such as
hydrationto locate matching warnings. - Limit the time window to recent entries, for example the last two minutes.
- Ask to clear logs and start fresh when you want a clean buffer for reproducing a problem.
These are natural-language examples of the documented tool’s filtering capabilities. For a useful debugging result, make the scope explicit: name the severity, relevant session, search text, or time period rather than asking a vague question such as “What is wrong?”
When Vercel’s Next.js DevTools MCP is a better fit
Vercel’s Next.js DevTools MCP is a separate, framework-specific option. Its documentation says it discovers running Next.js 16+ development servers and proxies their built-in /_next/mcp endpoint. Its runtime tools include errors, routes, logs, page and project metadata, and Server Actions; the available tools depend on the Next.js version. It is therefore broader than a console-log query workflow in some respects, but it is not a general-purpose browser-console server for arbitrary frameworks. Next.js DevTools telemetry note
The Vercel README says the tool collects anonymous tool-usage, error, and session/environment telemetry. It says it does not collect code, file contents or paths, personal data, credentials, or tool arguments, and documents NEXT_TELEMETRY_DISABLED=1 as an opt-out. These are the project’s own statements, not an independent privacy audit. Check the current README if telemetry handling matters to your environment.
Choosing between the two
- Choose Browser Echo when the task is specifically to inspect frontend console logs and your framework can use one of its documented integrations.
- Choose Next.js DevTools MCP when you are working in a supported Next.js 16+ development setup and want its runtime and project diagnostic tools as well as logs.
- Do not treat Next.js DevTools as a drop-in console server for Vue, Nuxt, React outside the stated Next.js workflow, or an arbitrary production page.
- In either case, confirm the data path: a running MCP server alone cannot show browser events that the application has not forwarded or exposed.
Troubleshooting missing logs or unavailable tools
The MCP connection starts, but the log list is empty
Check the framework integration first. Browser Echo’s MCP package depends on logs being forwarded from the application. Confirm the integration is installed and configured for the framework, then generate a new console event and query again. Also check any configured ingest endpoint or BROWSER_ECHO_MCP_URL value against the README’s instructions.
The assistant cannot connect to the server
For stdio, verify the configured command and argument are exactly the intended npx @browser-echo/mcp invocation in your MCP client’s format, then restart or reload that client. For HTTP, confirm that the server is running in HTTP mode and that the client points to the actual host, port, and /mcp path. The README’s 127.0.0.1:5179 endpoint is an example, not a guarantee that your server uses that address.
A filter returns no matching entries
Broaden the query: remove the severity or session filter, search for a shorter text fragment, or widen the time range. Then add filters back one at a time. This distinguishes a restrictive query from a forwarding or connection problem.

Next.js tools do not discover a server
Check that the app is a running Next.js development server and meets the documented Next.js 16+ requirement for discovery/query workflows. Check the listed Node.js and package-manager prerequisites in the Registry entry. A production site or a different framework is outside the described discovery workflow.
A Next.js runtime tool is missing
The Vercel README says tool availability depends on the Next.js version. Confirm the version and consult the current README for which tools it exposes; do not assume every runtime diagnostic is available in every version.
