Prioritize upgrades on gear you expect to keep; wait to spend valuable manastones until you are unlikely to transfer that gear. Manastones add randomized stats, and current third-party Aion 2 guides report that their engraved stats are lost when gear is transferred. Once your equipment is durable, choose stones for your build and whether you focus on PvE or PvP. Check the live client for your region before committing rare materials.
What manastones do—and how they differ from other upgrades
Manastones are a randomized stat layer for weapons and armor. A current Aion Xt o polis guide says each row rolls a stat and quality independently, so duplicate stats can appear. The guide also distinguishes manastones from soulstones, which are used in accessories. Available stats vary by stone tier, and Abyssal stones use a different pool from regular stones.
Enhancement is a separate gear-progression system: it improves the item rather than adding a set of rolled socket stats. A September 24, 2026 guide based on game client data describes grade-dependent enhancement caps and amplification beyond +15 for unique gear. These are reported mechanics, not a guarantee that every regional client currently works identically; verify the item’s options and rules in your own client.
Should you use manastones now or wait until endgame?
Wait if the item is temporary or you expect to transfer its value to replacement gear soon. Both the manastone guide and Aion 2 Maps, updated September 28, 2026, advise caution because socketed or engraved stats are reported to be lost during gear transfer. Spending heavily on an item you are about to replace can therefore leave you with little or no lasting benefit from those stones.

If you intend to keep the equipment, socketing becomes a reasonable way to tune its stats. Before spending rare stones, check the current regional client’s transfer rules: these mechanics are described by third-party guides, not established here as universal across regions or patches.
Do manastones transfer to new gear in Aion 2?
Current third-party guides report that engraved manastone stats do not survive gear transfer. That is the key reason not to treat socketing as a permanent account-wide upgrade. Transfer rules can change, and regional clients may differ, so inspect the transfer prompt or current item guidance in your version before confirming a transfer or using valuable stones.

What should you upgrade first in Aion 2?
Use this order as a decision framework, not a universal numerical ranking. Available materials, gear grade, transfer plans, and your target activity all change the best choice. The sources do not establish a reliable break-even point or universal return on investment between enhancement and manastones.
- Temporary gear: Hold expensive manastones if you expect to replace or transfer the item soon. Spend first on progression that remains useful through your planned transition, after checking the actual transfer rules in your region.
- Gear you expect to keep: Compare enhancement with socketing. Enhancement advances the item through a separate progression track; manastones let you target rolled stats. If enhancement is the more dependable next step for your durable core gear, prioritize it, then use stones to fill the stats your build needs.
- PvP-focused equipment: Consider Abyssal stones because their pool includes PvP stats. Weigh those options against regular stones and the specific rolls your build needs.
- PvE-focused equipment: Choose from the non-Abyssal pool when its available stats better fit your build. Check the live client for actual rolls and values rather than relying on an assumed stat amount or probability.
Why there is no single best upgrade for every character
Enhancement and manastones address different needs: one advances gear progression, while the other adds randomized stats. Their relative value depends on whether the item will be kept, its grade and enhancement limits, your activity, and the materials you currently have. The Aion2.help equipment overview also treats enhancement as a distinct system, but available sources do not support a universal cost or return comparison.

Progression rules can change. NCSoft’s May 27, 2026 update announcing the new Sanctuary “Chalice of Muspel” is evidence that Aion 2 receives system updates; it does not specify manastone transfer rules. Do not assume mechanics from the older Aion or AION Classic games apply to Aion 2.
