Its official offline-installer link redirected to a 5.7.1 build when checked that day, so confirm the version of the file you download. “Offline installer” refers to the setup package; Malwarebytes still requires an internet connection to install, activate, and update the app.
Current Malwarebytes 5 version and official download
Malwarebytes’ Windows v5 Product Lifecycle page, updated October 1, 2026, lists version 5.7.2 with component package 166.0.5763 as Active. Its general availability date is October 1, 2026. The release notes for version 5.7.2 describe improved malicious-script detection and activation-failure messaging, a direct link to Browser Guard extension settings, and fixes involving detection, protection, remediation, localization, stability, and performance.
For the official Windows offline setup package, use Malwarebytes’ offline installer endpoint. On October 4, 2026, that endpoint redirected to an executable identified as version 5.7.1.346, component package 165.0.5751—not the 5.7.2 release listed as active. That is a dated observation, not a promise about what the link serves on another day. After downloading, check the file’s version before running it; if it is older than the active release, use Malwarebytes’ official download page to check for the current app package.
The redirect target could not be inspected, so its binary, signature, and installation behavior are not established here. Download only from Malwarebytes’ official domain, and do not assume an old forum reference to the endpoint confirms its current target.

What “offline installer” does—and does not—mean
The offline package can be useful for moving the setup file to another device, but it does not make the full installation process internet-free. Malwarebytes’ system requirements state that an active connection is required to install and activate the app, update the software, and install component and database updates. Plan to connect the PC during setup and activation, and keep it connected for updates.
This separates three steps that are easy to conflate: downloading or transferring the installer, installing the app, and activating a license. The installer is not itself a subscription, and downloading it does not purchase or activate protection.

Check Windows compatibility before downloading
Malwarebytes currently lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 as supported. Its requirements also specify:
- At least 4 GB of RAM; 8 GB is preferred.
- 1 GB of free disk space for installation.
- Windows S mode must be disabled.
- ARM-based Windows 11 devices and Windows 11 running on ARM-based Mac processors are supported.
ChromeOS is not supported. Malwarebytes’ requirements page also lists macOS versions, but the MB5 offline endpoint covered here is for Windows. Windows 8.1 and older require an upgrade to a later Windows version before downloading the app.

Install and activate Malwarebytes for Windows
- Check the system requirements and connect the PC to the internet.
- Download the installer from Malwarebytes’ official site. If transferring the offline package to the PC, check its version before opening it.
- Open MBsetup.exe. Approve the Windows prompt if one appears, then choose Install in the setup wizard.
- Choose Personal or Business use when prompted and complete setup.
- Open Malwarebytes and activate using your Malwarebytes account, a license key, or an MB code. Wait for the app to report successful activation before continuing to the dashboard.

- Confirm connectivity: Verify the PC has an active internet connection before installation.
- Run a local copy: Save the installer on the PC and run it there, rather than launching it from a network drive.
- For an upgrade, keep the existing location: Install to the same location as the previous version.
- Restart when prompted: Reboot immediately if setup requests it.
- Check conflicting software if needed: Temporarily disable third-party antivirus software and VPN or proxy settings as troubleshooting steps.
- Check firewall access: If installation still fails, make sure the firewall permits ark.mwbsys.com over port 443.
