In iOS 27, you can change Home Screen icon styles and sizes, add widgets, personalize the Lock Screen, and rearrange Control Center—all with built-in settings. The options shown depend on your iPhone model, so use the steps below to check what your device supports.
How do I customize my iPhone Home Screen in iOS 27?
Change the icon appearance from the Home Screen editing controls. You can choose light, dark, clear, or tinted icons, and make icons larger. Apple says larger icons do not display app names, so keep the standard size if labels help you find apps quickly.
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the icons jiggle.
- Tap Edit, then Customize.
- Choose a light, dark, clear, or tinted appearance, or select the larger icon size.
- If you choose a tint, adjust its color and saturation. Apple also describes selecting a tint from the wallpaper with the eyedropper.
Try one appearance change at a time and check that icons remain easy to distinguish against your wallpaper. Apple’s guide lists the available choices in Make your iPhone your own.

Widgets put selected information on the Home Screen, and some let you take simple actions without opening the app. Available widget sizes, styles, and actions vary by app. Calendar events, weather, battery information, and reminders are useful candidates when you want information at a glance; you do not need to fill every open space.

- Touch and hold the Home Screen background until the icons jiggle.
- Tap Edit, then Add Widget.
- Select an app and review the sizes or styles it offers.
- Add the widget, then position it where it will be useful.
Some widgets support actions—for example, a Reminders widget may let you check off an item. The action depends on the app and widget. Apple’s widget instructions explain how to add and arrange them: Add, edit, and remove widgets on iPhone.
How do I customize my iPhone Lock Screen?
The Lock Screen can combine a wallpaper, clock styling, widgets, and shortcut controls. Apple’s iOS 27 guide describes using a favorite photo and a depth effect for a spatial look, as well as changing the clock size and replacing the bottom controls with options such as Timer or Voice Memo.

- Touch and hold the Lock Screen.
- Choose Add New.
- Select a wallpaper option, then customize the photo or other available elements, clock, widgets, and bottom controls.
Widgets can make information convenient to see, but may also expose personal details to someone holding your locked phone. To choose what remains accessible, open Settings > Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode, then review Allow Access When Locked. For example, a Calendar widget could show an upcoming event. How do I customize Control Center?
Use Control Center to put frequently used actions within quick reach. On an iPhone with Face ID, swipe down from the upper-right corner. On an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom edge.

- Open Control Center and tap the Add button to edit.
- Add controls from the gallery, or move, remove, or resize existing controls.
- Create sections if you want to group related controls.
- Touch and hold a control to see whether it offers additional options.
Consider keeping everyday actions in the first view and placing occasional controls in another section. This is an organizational choice, not a required Apple layout. Follow Apple’s Control Center instructions for the editing controls.
Which customization should I choose?
- For a cleaner look: Try clear or tinted icons, but check contrast against your wallpaper.
- For app-finding by name: Keep standard-size icons, because large icons hide app names.
- For more at-a-glance information: Add only the widgets that answer questions you regularly check, and select a size that suits the information.
- For faster access: Put your most-used actions in Control Center or on the Lock Screen.
- For greater lock-screen privacy: Review which features are allowed while the phone is locked, including information shown by widgets.
Why don’t I see every iOS 27 option?
Apple cautions that “Not all features are available for all iPhone models.” Its support pages do not establish exact model-by-model availability for every appearance choice or control. If an option in these steps is missing, check Apple’s current iPhone User Guide for your specific model rather than assuming the feature is available on every iPhone.
