ScreenshotX is a Windows snipping tool built around presentation: it can center captured content against a solid-color background and offers tools for adding a background, drawing, highlighting, picking colors, and blurring details. Here’s how to use its listed features to give a capture a more deliberate look—and what to know before sharing one.
What ScreenshotX offers
ScreenshotX describes its app as lightweight freeware with no ads, spyware, or registration. Its official page lists version 1.1 for Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7, with setup and portable downloads. The listed file size is 3.0 MB; the page does not state when version 1.1 was released. These are claims and specifications published by ScreenshotX, not independently tested findings. ScreenshotX’s official page also lists 21 built-in translations.
The distinctive feature is what ScreenshotX calls automatic balancing: it detects a solid-color background and centers the screenshot content. Its feature list also includes adding a background, brush drawing, highlighting, color picking with complementary colors, and blurring sensitive information. Text and annotations are marked “coming soon” on the page, so do not count on them as available tools.

Capture an area or window. Those are the capture modes named on ScreenshotX’s feature list.

Set the visual frame. When the background is a solid color, automatic balancing can center the captured content. Use the listed background control to change the surrounding field, then use brush or highlight tools to draw attention to relevant details. The color picker can help identify colors and complementary colors.

Blur details that should not be visible. ScreenshotX lists a blur tool for sensitive information. Inspect the result carefully before saving or sharing, especially around names, messages, account details, and other private content.

Save locally or share deliberately. Use the option that fits the audience and sensitivity of the image. Sharing has an important privacy trade-off, described below.

The product page does not specify hotkeys, export formats, or a precise sequence of controls, so the steps above follow its listed capabilities rather than assuming a particular interface layout.
Before using Share, understand where the image goes
ScreenshotX says its Share button uploads the screenshot to its cloud and returns a URL without requiring an account. Its privacy text warns that anyone who knows the URL can access the image. The same page says shared images are automatically removed after 30 days and that version 1.1 lets users delete a shared image in the app or through its administrative URL. Those are ScreenshotX’s stated policies, not an independently audited guarantee.

ScreenshotX separately says the application does not collect information about the user or computer. That statement does not mean a screenshot stays on the device when Share is used: sharing uploads the image. Blur or remove sensitive content first, and avoid sending a cloud link if the image should remain private.
When Windows Snipping Tool may be enough
Windows already includes Snipping Tool. Microsoft documents support for Windows 11 and Windows 10, with freeform, rectangular, window, and full-screen image captures; pen and highlighter annotation; shapes; cropping; text actions that extract text; saving; and sharing. Its support page also documents video snips. Perfect Screenshot and Color picker are limited to Copilot+ PCs. See Microsoft’s Snipping Tool guide for the documented features.
Choose based on the job rather than assuming one app replaces the other:
