Its defining feature is configurable GPIO: a 40-pin header exposes multiplexed functions for uses such as UART, I2C, SPI, PWM, and I2S. It also includes 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, making it a candidate for embedded Linux and IoT prototypes—provided its memory, storage, pin assignments, and HAT compatibility suit the project.
What is the Luckfox Lyra Zero W?
Luckfox describes the Lyra Zero W as a Linux micro development board. Its Rockchip RK3506B combines three Arm Cortex-A7 cores running at 1.2 GHz with an Arm Cortex-M0. The board has 512 MB of DDR3L memory and 256 MB of SPI NAND flash. These are the manufacturer-listed specifications; they do not by themselves establish which operating-system images or applications will run well.
The board includes a 40-pin GPIO header, MIPI DSI, USB, and microSD/storage support. For physical connections and exact signal assignments, consult the schematic for the board revision in hand rather than assuming every revision has identical pin details: Luckfox Lyra Zero product information and manufacturer documentation.
How does the 40-pin GPIO header provide flexibility?
Luckfox describes its Rockchip Matrix IO as multiplexing 98 function signals across GPIO pins. The available functions include PWM, UART, I2C, SPI, and I2S. This is a pool of alternate functions that can be assigned to pins, not 98 independent general-purpose pins.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Pin multiplexing is useful when a project needs to choose among several peripheral interfaces without requiring a separate physical pin for every possible function. The trade-off is that a pin assigned to one alternate function may not be available for another at the same time. Check the current board schematic and software configuration for the intended combination before designing a carrier board or wiring a prototype. The schematic also provides the context for the 3.3 V and 5 V rails, GPIO mappings, MIPI DSI, USB, I2C, and wireless circuitry.
What wireless standards does it support?
The board uses an AIC8800DC wireless module. Its listed capabilities are 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.2, and BLE. The product documentation says the external antenna is selected by default; GPIO 55 selects the onboard chip antenna. Treat antenna selection as a hardware/control detail, and verify the relevant board documentation before changing the setup. See the AIC8800DC documentation.

Will Raspberry Pi HATs work with it?
Luckfox says the 40-pin header is compatible with some Raspberry Pi HATs, not all HATs. A matching connector or pin count is not enough to guarantee compatibility: check the HAT’s electrical requirements, pin assignments, mechanical fit, and software expectations against the Lyra Zero W documentation. In particular, confirm voltage exposure and any pins the HAT reserves for functions that conflict with the board’s configuration. Luckfox’s statement about some HATs is on its Lyra Zero product page.
