As of WAFB’s September 24, 2026 report, LSU had found a student-athlete responsible for sexual assault and forcible rape in a campus Title IX process, and the finding had been upheld on appeal with a modified sanction. A separate criminal investigation by the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office was ongoing; no criminal charges had been announced in that report. WAFB said the player had not been publicly identified.
What the student says happened
WAFB reported that LSU student Kendall Francis said the alleged incident occurred in October 2025, after she visited a football player at an LSU dorm. Francis said LSU Police took her to a hospital. In WAFB’s September 24 report, she described her account this way: “I just went over there… and I was sexually assaulted.” That is her account of the alleged incident, not a finding by a criminal court. What LSU’s Title IX process found
Francis filed a formal Title IX complaint in January 2026, according to WAFB. The university investigation involved conflicting accounts, including whether she consented. Internal university documents obtained by WAFB said LSU found the student-athlete responsible for sexual assault and forcible rape.

The athlete appealed, and LSU’s Title IX office upheld the finding. WAFB reported that the appeal modified the sanction to “disciplinary probation without restrictions.” This is an administrative university determination; it is not a criminal conviction or a ruling by a criminal court. Where the criminal investigation stands
WAFB reported that the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office opened a criminal investigation after a formal criminal complaint was filed. The September 24 report said the investigation remained ongoing and no criminal charges had been announced as of that publication. That status is time-specific and does not establish what may have happened since.
The administrative Title IX process and the criminal investigation are separate proceedings. The university finding does not itself amount to criminal charges or determine the outcome of a prosecution. WAFB quoted District Attorney Hillar Moore saying the matter had previously been addressed through a campus-level investigatory and review process, and that LSU Police and Baton Rouge Police had information concerning it. LSU said the athlete was the person who initially reported the incident. These are descriptions attributed to their respective sources; WAFB’s reports do not reconcile them. WAFB, September 24, 2026.

What LSU and Francis have said
Francis told WAFB that she believed LSU would pursue criminal charges after the university found the athlete responsible. She also said she had misunderstood how the Title IX process worked.
LSU President Wade Rousse told WAFB that the university takes allegations of misconduct seriously, that the incident had been handled according to LSU policies and procedures, and that the university would continue cooperating with law enforcement after the criminal complaint was filed. The statements describe LSU’s position; they do not change the separate procedural status of the university finding and criminal investigation. WAFB, September 24, 2026.

Has the football player been publicly named?
No. WAFB’s September 24 report said the player’s name had not been publicly released. The reporting does not establish a public identity, so names circulating elsewhere should not be treated as confirmed.
