A Chrome launch error is not, by itself, a Loki ingestion, storage, or LogQL problem. First identify which component produced it: Grafana Image Renderer, Grafana k6 browser, another automation tool, or a Loki process. The browser path and launch settings differ by component, and a browser installed on the host may not be available inside the container or service that needs it.
Identify which component is trying to launch Chrome
Read the full error and note which action triggered it: dashboard image export, rendering, a browser automation run, a Loki query, or a service startup. Record the component and version, deployment method, operating system, and the account that runs it.
Grafana’s Loki data source troubleshooting guide covers data-source connection, query, and configuration problems; it does not cover troubleshooting the Loki service itself. If the error occurs during dashboard rendering, investigate Grafana Image Renderer instead. If it comes from a different automation tool, use that tool’s browser-launch settings rather than applying Grafana’s.
If the issue is actually a Loki connection or query
For a Loki data-source problem, check the Loki URL and API path, tenancy header, credentials, network access, TLS, query syntax, and WebSocket configuration as applicable. Those checks address communication with Loki, not a Chrome executable that cannot be found or started.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Fix a missing browser in Grafana Image Renderer
Grafana Image Renderer needs a browser available in the renderer’s own runtime environment. A browser installed on a host does not establish that a separate container or service can see it. Check from inside the renderer environment and as the operating-system user that launches the browser.
- Verify the binary is installed and accessible. Check its actual path, execute permissions, architecture compatibility, and required system dependencies in the renderer’s runtime.
- Set the executable path explicitly if discovery fails. Grafana documents
--browser.pathfor selecting the browser binary. Set it to the real path visible to the renderer, following the configuration method for your installation. - Check browser compatibility. Grafana says Chromium-based browsers including Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Brave are technically compatible with Chrome DevTools Protocol, but “Only Chromium is officially supported.” See Grafana’s image-rendering troubleshooting documentation for the applicable setup guidance.
Resolve installation and cache mismatches
If an error names a specific browser version, compare that version with the one expected by the installed renderer or automation tool, then verify the corresponding browser was installed. A historical Grafana Image Renderer issue reports the message “Could not find Chrome (ver. 116.0.5845.96)” and identifies an absent installation or misconfigured Puppeteer cache path as possible causes. That version and the reported path, /home/grafana/.cache/puppeteer, are examples from that issue—not universal current requirements or defaults. Check the cache path under the service account actually running the renderer. See the issue report.

When the binary exists but Chrome still will not start
A found executable can still fail at launch because the runtime restricts it. Inspect the renderer logs for a sandbox, shared-memory, namespace, or missing-system-library error before changing settings.
- Containers and Kubernetes: verify the container has the required capabilities and that its security profile permits the needed operations.
- Linux service environments: inspect seccomp and AppArmor restrictions and relevant virtualization features.
- Sandbox configuration: Grafana documents a
--browser.sandboxoption and custom browser flags. Do not treat--no-sandboxas a universal fix: changing sandbox behavior affects security and may not address the actual failure.
Grafana’s image-rendering troubleshooting page discusses these environment-specific restrictions. Match any changes to the concrete error and deployment’s security requirements rather than weakening protections speculatively.

Use the setting for the actual browser tool
Executable-path options are not interchangeable. Grafana Image Renderer documents --browser.path; Grafana k6 browser documentation uses K6_BROWSER_EXECUTABLE_PATH to override the executable path. Confirm the component and version before applying either setting.
For k6, see Grafana’s browser options documentation. For Image Renderer, use its image-rendering troubleshooting documentation. If the error truly originates in a Loki executable or extension, the available Grafana browser guidance does not establish a Chrome-launch procedure for that process; collect the exact message and component version and consult documentation specific to it.
