If your Logitech mouse is unresponsive, disconnecting, or refusing to pair, start with power, then check its connection, reduce wireless interference, and test it on another computer. The right steps depend on whether it is wired, uses a USB receiver, or connects over Bluetooth—and on the exact model.

1. Check the mouse’s power

For a wireless mouse, confirm its power switch is on. If it has a rechargeable battery, charge it. If it takes replaceable batteries, try fresh batteries of the type specified for your model; Logitech notes that low battery can cause a lost connection. Do not assume every model uses the same battery type.

If the mouse is wired, check that its cable is firmly connected and not visibly damaged. If possible, try another USB port.

2. Check the connection

If the mouse uses a USB receiver

  1. Unplug the receiver and connect it directly to a USB port on the computer. Bypass any hub or KVM switch while troubleshooting.
  2. Try a different USB port. If it is plugged into a USB 3.0 port, Logitech suggests trying a USB 2.0 port as well.
  3. Check whether the computer recognizes the receiver. On Windows, Device Manager can help determine whether it appears as a connected device.

Logitech says its Connection Utility is no longer supported or maintained. For supported devices, it recommends Logi Options+; check your model’s support page for the applicable pairing method rather than relying on old utility instructions. Logitech’s connection guidance and its mouse troubleshooting steps provide further model-specific detail.

Logitech M510 Full Size Ambidextrous 2.4 GHz Wireless Mouse
  • Your hand can relax in comfort hour after hour with this ergonomically designed mouse. Its contoured shape with soft rubber grips, gently curved sides and broad palm area give you the support you need for effortless control all day long.
  • You’ve got the control to do more, faster. Flipping through photo albums and Web pages is a breeze, especially for right-handers—with three standard buttons plus Back/Forward buttons that you can also program to switch applications, go full screen and more. And side-to-side scrolling plus zoom gives you the power to scroll horizontally and vertically through your music library, maps and Facebook feeds, and zoom in and out of photos and budget spreadsheets with a click.* * Requires Logitech SetPoint software (Windows) or Logitech Control Center software (Mac OS X)
  • Two years of battery life practically eliminates the need to replace batteries. ** The On/Off switch helps conserve power, smart sleep mode extends battery life and an indicator light eliminates surprises. ** Battery life may vary based on user and computing conditions.
  • The tiny Logitech Unifying receiver stays in your laptop. There’s no need to unplug it when you move around, so there’s less worry of it being lost. And you can easily add compatible wireless mice and keyboards to the same wireless receiver.

If the mouse uses Bluetooth

Turn the mouse on, put it into pairing mode using the control specified for that model, then select it in the computer’s Bluetooth settings. The exact pairing control and menu labels vary by mouse and operating-system version. If pairing mode will not start, consult the model’s instructions. Logitech provides general computer connection guidance.

3. Reduce distance and wireless interference

Move the mouse closer to its receiver or host computer while testing. Temporarily move other wireless or electrical devices away; Logitech lists devices such as wireless speakers, monitors, phones, and computer power supplies as possible sources of interference.

That distance is model-specific guidance, not a universal guarantee for every Logitech mouse. Logitech’s connection troubleshooting page covers additional connection checks.

4. Test the mouse on another computer

If one is available, connect or pair the mouse with a second computer. If it works there, investigate the original computer’s USB port, Bluetooth settings, or platform configuration. If it is still not recognized, inspect the mouse and receiver and consult the model’s support page. This test narrows the possibilities; by itself, it does not identify which component has failed. Logitech recommends trying another computer in its connection troubleshooting guidance and receiver troubleshooting steps.

Identify the receiver before replacing it

Logitech mice may use a standard 2.4 GHz USB receiver, a Unifying receiver, or a Logi Bolt receiver. These technologies are not automatically interchangeable. Check the receiver’s printed logo or model number, then verify compatibility with your exact mouse before buying a replacement. Logitech’s receiver pairing and troubleshooting page explains how to identify and troubleshoot receivers.

If the receiver is not recognized, try a direct USB port and another computer before treating it as failed. If the mouse still will not work, use the product-specific support page to check the next step and confirm that any replacement receiver is compatible.
