If Logitech Capture is using too much CPU or lagging when background blur is on, first find out which app is producing the blur. Capture documents Chroma Key for background removal; Logitech separately identifies XSplit VCam as a source that can remove or blur a background. Test Capture without optional effects, then disable an external blur effect on its own, lower recording settings, and check the camera connection if the video feed—not just the effect—stutters.
Does Logitech Capture have background blur?
Capture includes Chroma Key, which removes a background; Logitech’s product page separately says users can connect XSplit VCam as a source to remove or blur a background. So “background blur” may be coming from another app rather than a built-in Capture blur control. Identify the effect provider before troubleshooting: an external app’s blur can add work independently of Capture’s recording and scene composition.
Logitech warns that high resolution combined with borders and Chroma Key can slow or freeze Capture on low-performance systems. It also says 1080p and 4K inherently add delay. These are qualitative cautions, not a prediction of a particular CPU percentage or the amount of lag a setting change will remove. Logitech’s Capture limitations and its Capture product page describe the features and constraints.
How to isolate Logitech Capture high CPU usage or lag
Change one variable at a time and compare CPU use, preview smoothness, and the resulting recording. This helps distinguish Capture’s workload from a separate blur app and from camera-feed problems.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- HD lighting adjustment and autofocus: The Logitech webcam automatically fine-tunes the lighting, producing bright, razor-sharp images even in low-light settings. This makes it a great webcam for streaming and an ideal web camera for laptop use
- Advanced capture software: Easily create and share video content with this Logitech camera that is suitable for use as a desktop computer camera or a monitor webcam
- Stereo audio with dual mics: Capture natural sound during calls and recorded videos with this 1080p webcam, great as a video conference camera or a computer webcam
- Full HD 1080p video calling and recording at 30 fps. You'll make a strong impression with this PC webcam that features crisp, clearly detailed, and vibrantly colored video
- Close other camera apps. Exit meeting, streaming, and other webcam applications, then open Capture alone. This reduces the chance that another app is using the camera or adding its own processing.
- Start with a plain Capture scene. Turn off the blur effect, Chroma Key, borders, and other optional effects. If the preview or recording becomes smoother, re-enable features one at a time to identify which combination coincides with the problem.
- Lower resolution and frame rate. Try 720p first, then compare with your intended 1080p or 4K setting. A lower setting reduces the video workload, but may not preserve the detail or smoothness you want. Logitech specifically notes additional delay at 1080p and 4K.
- Disable external blur separately. If XSplit VCam or another application supplies the blur, switch off its effect while leaving the rest of the Capture setup unchanged. Compare CPU use and preview or recording smoothness; this isolates the blur app from Capture’s other work.
- Check the camera and USB path if the feed stutters. Confirm that the webcam and host meet Logitech’s requirements. Use a compatible direct USB connection, particularly for StreamCam and BRIO. A port check is relevant to an unstable or stuttering camera feed; it is not a fix for CPU-bound blur or encoding.
- Add settings back individually. Restore the desired resolution, frame rate, and effects one at a time. If the problem returns after a specific change, you have a more useful lead than a simultaneous set of changes would provide.
What requirements and USB connections should you check?
Logitech’s requirements page lists Windows 10 and macOS 10.14, 10.15, and 11; the Big Sur listing applies to Intel Macs using Capture 2.06 or later. Listed webcams include C920 HD Pro, C920s HD Pro, 1080P Pro Stream, C922 Pro Stream, C922X Pro Stream, C930e, StreamCam, StreamCam Plus, BRIO 4K Pro, and BRIO Stream. Check Logitech’s Capture system requirements for the applicable computer details.
For Windows recording, Logitech lists these minimums:

- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Auto-Light Balance: RightLight boosts brightness by up to 50%, reducing shadows so you look your best—compared to previous-generation Logitech webcams (1)
- Privacy with a Slide: The integrated webcam cover makes it easy to get total, reliable privacy when you're not on a video call
- Built-In Mic: The built-in microphone lets others hear you clearly during video calls
- Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works
| Recording resolution | Processor | Graphics | Memory |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p | 6th-generation Intel Core i5 or later | Dedicated graphics or integrated Intel HD Graphics 510 or higher | 8 GB RAM |
| 1080p | 7th-generation Intel Core i5 or later | Intel dedicated graphics or integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 or higher | 8 GB RAM |
These are stated minimum requirements, not a guarantee that effects will run smoothly. Logitech’s page also gives minimum Apple computer generations; consult it for those system-specific details rather than applying the Windows requirements to a Mac.
Connection requirements vary by webcam. Logitech specifies a direct USB 3.x connection for BRIO 4K Pro and BRIO Stream, and a direct USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C or higher connection for StreamCam. Its limitations guidance also says BRIO needs USB 3.0 for 4K and other optimal features, and notes that feed issues can depend on the USB port. If the feed itself is unstable, check the webcam’s connection against Logitech’s connection guidance.

Why can recording use CPU even when blur is off?
Capture records and composites multiple sources and scenes, so its workload is not limited to background effects. Logitech says Capture automatically selects a recording encoder according to the system’s CPU/GPU configuration: Intel Quick Sync, NVIDIA NVENC, or Cisco OpenH264. Recordings are MP4 files encoded with H.264. Logitech does not document a manual encoder toggle or a guaranteed CPU reduction from any one encoder choice.
Encoder selection can help explain why recording behavior differs between computers, but the documentation does not establish which encoder every system will use or the CPU percentage it will consume. Logitech’s video-encoding explanation also describes specific hardware and USB conditions for 4K recording.

When is Capture not needed?
If your goal is only an ordinary webcam video call, Logitech says its webcams are UVC devices and driver support is built into Windows 10 and macOS. Trying the webcam directly in the meeting app can help determine whether Capture is involved. This bypasses Capture’s scenes, controls, and effects, so it is an isolation option—not a way to retain those features while reducing their workload.
