Compare Live Nation with other live-entertainment stocks by matching business lines first—not by choosing companies with similar-sounding names. Live Nation combines concert promotion, ticketing, and sponsorship and media activities; Madison Square Garden Entertainment is more centered on venues, bookings, and productions, while CTS Eventim competes in promotion and primary ticketing. Those differences make business mix, reporting periods, and financial definitions essential before comparing performance or valuation.

Start by defining what “similar” means

A useful peer group depends on the question. A venue operator may compete with Live Nation in some markets without having the same economics as a global promoter or ticketing business. Live Nation’s FY2025 filing describes competition across concert promotion, venue management, and primary ticketing, and names different competitors for different activities. Compare like with like: promoters against promoters, ticketing operations against ticketing operations, and venue businesses against venue businesses.

That distinction matters because revenue, costs, and risks can follow different drivers. Promotion depends on events and artist relationships; ticketing on ticket volumes and platform operations; venues on bookings and utilization; and sponsorship on advertiser demand and audience reach. A company that spans several of these activities may not be comparable to a company concentrated in one.

How the main comparison candidates differ

Company or entity Why it may be relevant What to keep in mind
Live Nation Entertainment (NYSE: LYV) Promotes concerts and operates ticketing and sponsorship and media activities. Use its reported segments to separate these businesses rather than treating the company as a single undifferentiated concert operator.
Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. (NYSE: MSGE) Its FY2026 filing describes a venue- and production-centered business, including Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, Beacon Theatre, The Chicago Theatre, the Christmas Spectacular, and a bookings business. It also describes capabilities in venue management, bookings, productions, sponsorship, ticketing, marketing, hospitality, and content. Its portfolio and owned productions create a different exposure from Live Nation’s combined global promotion and ticketing mix; it is not a one-for-one equivalent.
CTS Eventim Live Nation identifies it as a competitor in concert promotion and primary ticketing, making it a useful cross-market comparison. Normalize country mix, currency, accounting presentation, and fiscal periods before comparing results. The comparison is not automatically like-for-like because of those differences.
Liberty Live Holdings It is a separate public company following a split-off from Liberty Media. Check its latest filing for current holdings and financial structure before treating it as an operating peer; a holding company’s look-through exposure is not the same as a direct operating business.
AEG Live Nation names AEG as a competitor. It is not a publicly traded equity peer in this comparison, so it is not a directly purchasable listed stock.

Read scale figures as clues, not as a ranking

Live Nation reported that it connected 159 million fans to more than 11,000 artists at 55,000 events in 2025. These are company-reported operating figures in its FY2025 Form 10-K. They help show the scale and breadth of Live Nation’s event activity, but they are not independent market-wide statistics and do not establish profitability. They also cannot be compared directly with a venue count or a production slate without understanding how each company defines and reports its measures.

For each candidate, record the reported segments and identify what drives them: attendance, ticket volumes, venue utilization, sponsorship, artist and promoter relationships, or owned productions. Also note geographic exposure and currencies. Operating scale can provide context, but margins, cash generation, and capital needs are needed to assess financial performance.

Align periods and financial definitions before comparing results

Begin with each company’s latest annual filing and latest interim report. Record each fiscal year-end and the dates covered. A calendar-year result should not be lined up against a company’s different fiscal period without labeling that difference. When comparing an international business such as CTS Eventim with a U.S. company, make the currency and accounting presentation explicit.

  • Reported revenue and segment results.
  • Operating margin and EBITDA, including a clear account of any EBITDA adjustments.
  • Free cash flow, with the same calculation applied across companies.
  • Debt, cash, and venue lease obligations.
  • Capital expenditure, share count, and dilution.

Venue-heavy businesses may have different property, lease, and capital-expenditure profiles from promoters or ticketing platforms. State how leases are treated in any enterprise-value or earnings comparison; otherwise, a multiple can obscure meaningful differences in obligations.

Compare valuation only with synchronized data

A valuation comparison needs market information gathered on one stated date, alongside the latest available filings and estimates. At a minimum, collect market capitalization, enterprise value, and, where meaningful, EV/revenue and EV/EBITDA. Explain the share-count date, debt and cash inputs, lease treatment, and any EBITDA adjustments. Label trailing results separately from forward estimates, and date and source those estimates.

  1. Set the market-data date. Use one date for share prices and share counts across the listed companies.
  2. Calculate enterprise value consistently. Show how cash, debt, leases, and other relevant obligations are handled for each business.
  3. Choose comparable earnings measures. Use the same EBITDA adjustment policy and state when a multiple is not meaningful because business mixes differ substantially.
  4. Label the time basis. Distinguish trailing results from forward estimates and identify the period each figure covers.
  5. Interpret multiples alongside operations. Consider business mix, growth drivers, margins, capital needs, and risk rather than treating a lower multiple as a standalone signal.

Without a synchronized market-data snapshot and current filings for every company, the evidence here does not support saying which stock is cheaper or more expensive today. A dated valuation comparison can change with share prices, estimates, and reported results.

Account for the risks that differ by business mix

Live Nation’s FY2025 filing describes competition from other entertainment options and competitors with stronger positions in particular markets. Across the broader group, assess how the following risks affect each company rather than assuming they are equal:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Event timing and cancellations: Event schedules can make results uneven between reporting periods, while cancellations can affect revenue and costs.
  • Consumer demand: Attendance and ticket purchasing can be exposed to changes in discretionary spending.
  • Concentration: Dependence on particular artists, venues, productions, or markets can make performance less diversified than headline scale suggests.
  • Competition: Promoters, ticketing services, venues, and alternative entertainment compete in overlapping but distinct ways.
  • Geography and currency: Different country exposure affects demand, regulation, currencies, and the comparability of reported results.
  • Fixed costs and financing: Venue ownership or leases can bring obligations that differ from those of businesses with less venue exposure; compare debt and fixed commitments alongside cash flow.
  • Regulation: Rules affecting ticketing, events, or operating markets can affect companies differently according to their activities and geography.

A practical comparison checklist

  • Define the segment being compared: promotion, ticketing, venues, productions, or sponsorship.
  • Confirm that each candidate is a listed operating company, or identify any holding-company structure and underlying assets.
  • Use the latest annual and interim filings, and label fiscal periods and currencies.
  • Separate reported revenue from ticket gross value and other operating-volume measures.
  • Compare margins, cash flow, debt, leases, capital expenditure, share count, and dilution using consistent definitions.
  • Only then compare dated valuation multiples, with assumptions and adjustments stated.
  • Assess concentration, competition, geography, event exposure, and fixed obligations before drawing conclusions.

This framework supports a more disciplined comparison, not a buy-or-sell verdict. Similar exposure to live entertainment does not make these stocks interchangeable, and operating scale alone is not a measure of investment value.
