Lite3DP Gen 2 is a palm-sized masked stereolithography (mSLA) printer for small parts made with 405 nm UV resin. Its 36.7 × 48.8 × 80 mm build volume limits it to miniatures, prototypes and similarly compact prints, but the project publishes firmware, hardware files and repair documentation. The product line is discontinued; Crowd Supply says it will be available only while existing inventory lasts.
What is Lite3DP Gen 2?
Lite3DP Gen 2 is a compact resin 3D printer that uses an LCD mask to selectively expose UV-sensitive resin, a process known as masked stereolithography (mSLA). The official product specification describes an ESP32 microcontroller, Arduino-programmable firmware, a custom RGB LCD mask, capacitive controls and autonomous printing from micro-SD. How small is the build area?
The build volume is 36.7 × 48.8 × 80 mm, according to Lite3DP’s 2023 product specification. That is suitable for small detailed objects, miniatures and test pieces, not large single-piece prints. What resin does it use?
The printer is specified for UV resin at 405 nm. Lite3DP lists standard, industrial, flexible, castable and dental resin categories as compatible, and identifies Chitubox, PrusaSlicer, Lychee and Voxeldance Tango among supported slicers. Lite3DP’s Crowd Supply product page
Resin compatibility does not mean all formulations share the same exposure settings or handling requirements. Follow the resin maker’s instructions and calibrate settings for the particular resin and printer. Resin printing also requires appropriate protective equipment and post-processing; factor those supplies and steps into ownership alongside resin and vat maintenance.

Is Lite3DP Gen 2 really open source?
The project publishes firmware, hardware design files, schematics, Gerbers, an engineering bill of materials, a quick-start guide, troubleshooting material, and alternative vat and build-platform designs in its Gen 2 GitHub repository. That gives owners material to inspect, modify and use in repair and experimentation. Lite3DP’s project team describes it as open source on the official product page.
Open documentation does not make every component a standard drop-in part. The repository calls out custom or less-common components, including a NEMA 8 motor with an integrated T3.5 leadscrew, a custom LCD and FPC, a 115 mm linear guide, and an aluminum light cone. It documents adaptations such as shorter 100 mm alternatives for the motor leadscrew and guide, but repairs may still involve sourcing or adapting parts rather than ordering generic replacements. What else do you need besides the printer?
- 405 nm resin: Choose a formulation for the intended print and follow its exposure and safety instructions.
- Release film: The resin vat needs release film. In a shipping update, Lite3DP said users would only need to install the film of their choice on the vat. Confirm dimensions and fit for the specific vat before buying a replacement. Lite3DP Crowd Supply updates
- Protective equipment and post-processing supplies: Plan for safe resin handling and the cleaning and curing steps required by the resin you select.
- Micro-SD card and slicer: Prepare a sliced job for the printer’s micro-SD workflow using a slicer supported by the vendor.
Can you still buy Lite3DP Gen 2?
The Crowd Supply campaign funded on December 21, 2023, and the product page now says the line will not be available after existing inventory is depleted.
