Liquid AI’s answer to personal AI is a separate context layer that runs on the device. Liquid Context learns from permitted device signals, keeps an understanding of the user’s routines and needs on the device, and makes relevant context available to agents the user chooses. Those agents reason and propose actions, but they act only with the user’s permission. The company announced this on September 23, 2026, as a platform collaboration with Qualcomm built around Snapdragon processors and the Hexagon NPU. It is not a finished consumer product, and the announcement does not say that every Snapdragon device supports it.
What Liquid Context is, and what it is not
Liquid Context is a context layer. It builds an understanding of how a person lives and what they need, then holds that understanding locally. It is not a general-purpose assistant that answers questions or takes actions on its own. Liquid AI draws the line between the two roles explicitly: the context layer supplies understanding, and agents use that understanding to reason, suggest next steps, and act with permission.
That separation is the core of the company’s strategy. A phone or laptop may host several agents at once, including third-party agents and Liquid’s own agent. Liquid Context is meant to be the shared memory they draw on, so each agent does not have to rebuild the user’s picture from scratch.
How the context layer is built
According to Liquid AI’s September 23, 2026 announcement, the layer works only with user permission. With that permission, it learns from device signals and builds a model of the user’s routines, preferences, and needs. The announcement says this context is maintained locally on the device.

The company also says the background updates to this context do not require a cloud model to process every update. That is a statement about the intended design. The announcement does not list the specific signals read, how long they are kept, or how a user would inspect or delete them.
Context versus agent: who does what

Does Liquid Context send personal context to the cloud?
The answer depends on which part of the system is being asked about, and the announcement treats the two parts differently.

- Building and maintaining context: Liquid AI says permitted context is built and maintained locally, and that a cloud model does not need to process every update.
- Sharing context with agents: Relevant context can be made available to the agents a user selects, and those agents may run in the cloud. Sharing follows the user’s permissions.
So the accurate description is local-first with permissioned sharing, not a promise that no personal context ever leaves the device. Readers who need that promise should look for it in the product’s own data-handling documentation once it exists.

The Snapdragon and Hexagon NPU work
Liquid AI says Liquid Context is optimized for Snapdragon processors, specifically Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU. The collaboration is announced as a platform partnership and an opportunity for device makers. It is not a consumer launch. The announcement does not name a retail device, a compatibility list, or a rollout date.
OEMs are the route the company describes to built-in experiences on devices. Device makers can evaluate Liquid Agent and tailor it to their own hardware, services, interface, and brand. Any device that ships with these features will be a decision made by that manufacturer, and buyers should check the manufacturer’s product pages for what is actually included.
Liquid Agent and its model
Liquid Agent is described as an embedded agent powered by LFM2.5-2.6B. Liquid AI says it optimized both this model and its context memory layer for Snapdragon execution. Liquid Agent and Liquid Context are related but distinct. One is an agent that uses context; the other supplies it.

The announcement illustrates the approach with three scenarios: rescheduling meetings when a child is sick, drafting a recap after a conference, and carrying workout context from a watch to a car. These describe possible experiences. They are not evidence of shipping integrations, and the company has not published measured outcomes for them.

The fixed-compute problem
In an October 8, 2026 interview with SiliconANGLE, Liquid AI COO Jeffrey Li described the constraint the company is designing around. In his words, the problem with devices is that you have fixed compute, and you have to fit within that zero-sum budget. He argued that many assumptions about how agent harnesses are built no longer hold at the edge.
Li also described plans for observability loops and continuous-improvement loops that would improve both the model and the harness through natural usage. These are stated development directions. The interview does not demonstrate them as working features.
Company voice on the concept
Liquid AI CEO and co-founder Ramin Hasani put the goal this way in the September 23 announcement: “Personal AI starts with understanding how you live and what you need, when you need it.” He added: “Liquid Context builds that understanding on your device so the agents you choose can offer more relevant help and anticipate your needs.”

- Liquid Apollo: announced in July 2025 as an iOS app for trying models locally.
- Liquid Nanos: the September 2025 model family, ranging from 350 million to 2.6 billion parameters. These are model sizes, not performance results. The company described specialized uses such as extraction, translation, RAG question answering, math, and tool calling, and said its performance claims rest on its own evaluations.
- MacPaw: in August 2026, Liquid AI and MacPaw announced a partnership to combine Liquid Foundation Models with MacPaw’s Elix inference and Mnemos memory technologies for MacPaw’s Eney assistant. Results were expected later in 2026. Setapp availability is described as a possible future direction, not an established channel.
- Lenovo Qira: a separate personal-context product that Lenovo describes as cross-device, permission-based, and hybrid, with local processing prioritized. Lenovo’s announcement does not link it to Liquid AI, and nothing here implies a partnership.
Liquid AI’s website also lists developer documentation, fine-tuning and deployment tools, and enterprise partners, including executive testimonials from Mercedes-Benz, Shopify, and AMD. These are company-presented endorsements, not independent evaluations.
How to evaluate any personal-context AI implementation
Liquid AI’s announcement is a useful checklist for comparing this approach with others. Ask each vendor:
- Where is context processed, and where is it stored?
- Which sources are read, and what permission controls exist for each?
- Which context is exposed to each agent?
- Does an agent need approval before it acts?
- How does the system behave within the device’s memory, compute, and power limits?
- What evidence exists for ongoing updates and corrections to what the system has learned?
What has not been established
As of the company’s announcement and the October 2026 interview coverage, the following are not publicly documented in the sources reviewed:

- An independent measurement of Liquid Context’s accuracy, battery use, latency, or privacy performance.
- A detailed inventory of device signals, a retention schedule, or deletion controls.
- A data-flow diagram showing what leaves the device and when.
- An independent privacy audit.
- A list of supported devices or a consumer launch date.
Until those details are published, the defensible position is that Liquid AI has described a local-first design with permissioned sharing and a Snapdragon optimization path through OEMs, and has not yet shown how it performs in shipping products.
