When was Linux kernel 5.13 released?
Linus Torvalds’s v5.13 tag is dated 27 June 2021, marking the upstream release. The Linux Kernel Archives list the downloadable 5.13 source tarballs on 28 June 2021. Linux distributions package and ship kernels on their own schedules, so that upstream date is not a universal distribution release date.
What changed in Linux 5.13?
Initial support for Apple M1
Linux 5.13 introduced initial support for Apple’s M1 hardware. “Initial” matters: this was an early step in enabling the platform, not a claim that every M1 feature or device configuration was fully supported. The release overview describes the change as a headline feature; details for this kernel version are available in the Linux 5.13 documentation.
Display and graphics
The release added AMD FreeSync support over HDMI and included AMD Navi GPU support. These changes expanded graphics and display capabilities for supported hardware.
