LG Electronics announced 33 HDTV models for its 2007 lineup at a November 1, 2006, event in Orlando: 22 LCD sets and 11 plasma sets. The range ran from 20 to 57 inches for LCD and included Full HD 1080p models in both technologies. Here is what the announcement said about the lineup, including the LB4D, LB5D and LY3D families.
What LG announced at the 2007 line show
LG announced the product lineup on November 1, 2006, in Orlando, Florida, according to EDN’s contemporaneous report. The 33 models comprised 22 LCD HDTVs and 11 plasma HDTVs. The announcement described a 2007 product range; it does not establish that every model was available in every market or on the same release date.
| Technology | Models announced | Reported range and highlights |
|---|---|---|
| LCD | 22 | 20–57 inches; 11 models were 1080p, in sizes from 37 to 52 inches. |
| Plasma | 11 | Three models were 1080p, in 50-, 60- and 71-inch sizes. |
The report also described LG’s wider market outlook at the time: the company projected 3.6 million plasma units, 16.3 million LCD units and 1.8 million microdisplay units for 2007, for a total of 21.8 million. LG also projected that digital TVs would account for approximately 71 percent of displays sold that year. These are forecasts reported in 2006, not actual shipment or sales results.
Which LG LCD families stood out?
The 2006 report named several families, including LC7, LB4D, LB5D, LY3D and LS7D. It provides specific feature and size details for three of them:

LB4D: multiple sizes and added connections
The LB4D series included 32-, 37-, 42- and 47-inch models. EDN identified the 47LB4D as Full HD 1080p. The series added TruMotion Drive, a third HDMI input and USB 2.0 for viewing photos and listening to music. The announcement does not give resolution details for every LB4D size, so the 1080p description should not be applied to the whole family.
LB5D: Full HD across four sizes
The LB5D range covered 37-, 42-, 47- and 52-inch models, all described as Full HD 1080p in the report.

What did “120 Hz” and “Wide Color Gamut” mean in LG’s announcement?
LG said TruMotion Drive raised the refresh rate to 120 Hz to make motion clearer. It described Wide Color Gamut as expanding the displayable colors to 92 percent of the NTSC spectrum. These are LG’s claims as reported at the time; the article does not provide independent measurements or a model-by-model list of which sets received each feature. The named LY3D family included TruMotion Drive and Wide Color Gamut, while the LB4D series was reported to include TruMotion Drive.

This was a historical product announcement, not a current buying guide. The report documents the lineup and the company’s stated features, but does not establish current availability, used-market condition, prices, repair support or compatibility with present-day services. LG’s statements that it sold more than 120,000 LG-branded products daily in the United States and had shipped more than 47 million flat-panel displays globally in 2005 were contemporaneous company claims quoted in the same report.
