The LG 49LW310C and Thomson 50TM5090 are older Full HD televisions, so neither should be treated as a 4K choice. The clearest paper difference is audio: LG lists 5W + 5W speakers, while a Thomson manual transcription lists 10W + 10W. That does not prove the Thomson sounds better in a room. The Thomson’s screen size is also reported inconsistently as 48 or 50 inches, and its feature details need confirmation against the exact regional unit.

Which TV is better for your use?
For broadcast television
LG’s EU/CIS specification explicitly lists DVB-T2/C/S2 reception. That is useful only if those standards match the broadcasts in your country; tuner standards vary by region. The available Thomson manual text does not establish a definitive tuner configuration for the exact unit, so ask for its full model label and regional documentation before buying it for antenna, cable or satellite service.
For built-in sound
The Thomson manual’s listed 10W + 10W output is twice the LG sheet’s 5W + 5W per channel on paper. Speaker wattage alone does not establish perceived loudness or clarity, and the Thomson figure is tied to a table entry in a caveated transcription—not an independent test. Listen to the set if possible, or plan for external audio if its sound is not adequate.

The Thomson manual transcription describes LAN, Wi-Fi and web browsing, but that does not establish that online services still work or that particular apps are available today. Test the individual television’s network connection and the services you need. Do not assume either older TV offers current streaming-app support based only on a feature description.

For size and placement
The LG document supports a 49-inch EU/CIS version. Thomson size references disagree: Smartprix labels the 50TM5090 as 48 inches, while other listings use 50 inches. The diagonal difference affects viewing distance and fit, so confirm the set’s exact variant and measure the screen before making a close-fit purchase.
What to check before buying either model
- Match the full model code and region. Read the label on the back of the television, including suffixes, and compare it with the seller’s description and regional manual. LG’s Korea support page identifies 49LW310C as a commercial TV and provides a manual and historical software/support material; it lists LW300C/LW310C software version 03.01.41 dated 2018-11-07. - Inspect the panel and controls in person where possible. Check for dead pixels, lines, uneven backlighting, image retention, damaged ports, remote-control faults and intermittent power. For a used set, operating condition can matter more than small paper-specification differences.
- Confirm every connection you need. Inspect the ports directly and connect your intended device if possible. Do not rely on a generic family description to guarantee the exact HDMI, USB, VGA or component configuration.
- Test reception and network functions. Scan using the broadcast source you plan to use and, for Thomson, test Wi-Fi or LAN plus any essential online service on the actual television.
- Get the terms in writing. Confirm the price, warranty, return window, delivery condition and whether the seller accepts a return if the model, tuner or working condition differs from the listing.

This is historical catalog information, not evidence of October 2026 stock or a current market price. There is no evidence-based universal winner without knowing your region, the price and condition of the specific sets, and the connections you need. The LG has better-supported regional specifications for its EU/CIS version, especially its 49-inch Full HD panel and listed DVB-T2/C/S2 tuner. The Thomson may have the paper audio-output advantage and a broader described set of connections, but those details need verification on the exact unit. Choose by confirmed model, working condition, local tuner compatibility and return protection—not by the model names alone.
