Check your exact LG monitor model first: “LG 34-inch” does not tell you whether it has built-in speakers or which audio connections it supports. Built-in speakers suit convenient everyday listening; powered external computer speakers make sense if your monitor has no speakers or you want a separate audio setup. Neither option is an established sound-quality winner without a direct comparison.
Does your LG 34-inch monitor have speakers?
Some LG 34-inch monitors have built-in speakers, but features differ between models and regional variants. LG advises checking the specifications for the full model number rather than inferring speaker availability from screen size. See LG’s UK specification for the 34WN650-W and LG USA’s 34U530A-W product page for examples of models described with built-in speakers.
Published specifications also vary in what they report. LG lists 7W x 2 audio output and MaxxAudio for the 34WN650-W in the UK, while its 34WQ75C-B specification sheet lists 7W x 2 built-in speakers with MaxxAudio. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of loudness or sound quality; they do not prove that a built-in setup will sound better or worse than external speakers.

Check the product specification for your exact model and sales region. A model name’s suffix can matter, so do not assume a similarly named model sold elsewhere has identical features.

The cited LG specifications do not provide a controlled comparison of built-in and external speakers, so they cannot establish an objective sound-quality winner.
How to get audio working through an LG monitor
Depending on the model, LG monitors can output audio through their built-in speakers or a headphone output over HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C. The computer must also send sound to the right output device. LG’s guidance is model-dependent; consult LG monitor support and the manual for your exact model.

- Confirm the audio path: Check that the monitor supports audio over the cable and input you are using, and whether sound should come from built-in speakers or the monitor’s headphone output.
- Select the computer’s audio output: In the computer’s sound settings, choose the monitor or connected audio device that should receive sound.
- Check the monitor settings: Raise the monitor volume and verify its sound or mute settings.
- Recheck compatibility: If there is still no sound, verify the selected input, cable support, and model-specific instructions. For an external soundbar, LG says support may depend on an audio-output port or Bluetooth capability.
