The Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Gen 9 delivers capable creator-class performance and strong 1080p gaming in the configuration HotHardware tested, but its best feature comes with a tradeoff: the bright 165 Hz Mini-LED display and powerful components make the reviewed machine less compelling away from an outlet. This page examines the review’s benchmark results and what they mean for buyers comparing configurations.

Which Yoga Pro 9i configuration did HotHardware test?

HotHardware’s August 16, 2024 review tested a Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i 16-inch Gen 9 (16IMH9) with an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, and 3.2K Mini-LED touchscreen. The findings below describe that specific system, not every Yoga Pro 9i sold under the same name. HotHardware’s benchmark page says the test machine also used a 1 TB SK Hynix PCIe 4 NVMe SSD.

The review describes a US base configuration at publication with a Core Ultra 7 155H, 16 GB of soldered LPDDR5X memory, a 512 GB SSD, RTX 4050 Laptop GPU, and a 3.2K 165 Hz IPS display rated at 400 nits. Lenovo’s official guide lists further display combinations, including 3200 × 2000 and 2560 × 1600 resolutions, so check the exact listing and model specifications rather than assuming every unit has the reviewed Mini-LED panel. Lenovo’s 16IMH9 user guide and Lenovo PSREF for the Yoga Pro 9 16IMH9 provide configuration details.

How did the Yoga Pro 9i perform in CPU and productivity tests?

The benchmark results show mixed leadership rather than a clean sweep. In Geekbench 5, HotHardware reported that the Yoga Pro 9i placed first in multi-core and second in single-core among the systems shown. In other comparisons, the review found that a Core Ultra 7 MSI Prestige 16 led the Yoga Pro in some single-thread and browser measures.

Cinebench R23 and Cinebench 2024 results were described as respectable for multi-threaded media and graphics rendering, while the review noted weaker relative single-thread results. PCMark 10’s overall showing was held back by lower productivity and essentials scores. These are comparisons within HotHardware’s tested lineup and 2024 methodology, not a universal ranking of laptops or current models.

HotHardware says it began with a fresh-from-box system, applied Windows and Lenovo updates to drivers, firmware, and BIOS, and then ran benchmarks including ATTO Disk Benchmark, Speedometer 2.0, Cinebench, Geekbench 5, and PCMark 10. The review describes the 1 TB SSD’s sequential performance as strong. The page’s benchmark charts are image-based, and numeric chart values are not available in its text, so the qualitative conclusions are more useful here than unsupported score estimates.

Can the Yoga Pro 9i handle gaming?

The RTX 4060 configuration performed well in HotHardware’s 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme result and its 1080p game tests. The reviewer ran Middle-earth: Shadow of War at 1920 × 1080 with High settings, and Gears Tactics at 1080p using low, medium, and high presets. No exact frame rates or benchmark scores are provided in the review text.

Those tests indicate solid gaming capability at the tested settings, but they do not establish how every game will run at the display’s native 3200 × 2000 resolution. Driving that many pixels is more demanding than 1080p, and HotHardware cautions that the native resolution changes the gaming equation. The Yoga Pro 9i is a creator-oriented laptop with gaming capability, not a dedicated gaming system.

What makes the Mini-LED display stand out?

HotHardware praised the tested Mini-LED panel’s color and brightness. The reviewed configuration combines a 3200 × 2000 resolution with a 165 Hz refresh rate; the review says it can reach 1,200 nits, and Lenovo’s PSREF lists up to 1,200 nits peak brightness for the Gen 9 Mini-LED option. The panel’s brightness and high refresh rate suit detailed creative work and smooth motion, though the reviewer found reflection handling could be better.

Display specifications vary by configuration. Lenovo’s guide lists both 3200 × 2000 and 2560 × 1600 panels, with refresh-rate combinations depending on the selected display. Verify the resolution, panel type, refresh rate, and brightness in the specific SKU’s documentation before paying a premium for the Mini-LED version.

How does battery life affect the recommendation?

Battery endurance is a notable compromise in the reviewed high-output setup. HotHardware’s reviewer characterizes the Mini-LED and discrete-GPU configuration as better suited to use near a power outlet, and observed that demanding operation could draw battery power even while the laptop was plugged in. That is an observation about the review unit and workload, not a controlled battery-life result that can be generalized to every Yoga Pro 9i configuration.

Lenovo lists an 84 Wh battery for the 16IMH9 family, but battery capacity alone does not predict runtime. Panel choice, graphics load, brightness, and workload all affect how long a charge lasts.

What can be upgraded, and what should buyers check?

Memory is onboard LPDDR5X, and Lenovo lists zero DIMM slots, so the RAM is not a user-upgrade path. The guide lists two M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4 SSD slots, which gives storage a more practical upgrade or replacement route; confirm the exact SKU and SSD compatibility before buying a drive. Lenovo’s user guide is the reference for the model’s storage and memory layout.

Lenovo lists two USB-A ports, USB-C/USB4 and Thunderbolt 4 capabilities, HDMI, an SD card slot, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Power-adapter options depend on configuration: integrated-graphics systems are supplied with up to 100 W USB-C, while discrete-GPU models use Lenovo’s rectangular connector rated up to 170 W. Check the exact machine documentation when selecting a replacement adapter or planning a dock and external-display setup.

  • Confirm the processor and GPU: the review’s Core Ultra 9 185H and RTX 4060 results do not apply to the base RTX 4050 configuration.
  • Verify panel type and specifications: IPS and Mini-LED options differ in resolution, brightness, and configuration.
  • Check installed memory and storage capacity before purchase; onboard memory cannot be expanded through a DIMM slot.
  • Use Lenovo’s guide for the exact model when checking SSD fit, charger type, or port support.

Does the Yoga Pro 9i keep pace with the competition?

In HotHardware’s 2024 comparison set, the tested Yoga Pro 9i was competitive in multi-core processing and particularly capable in graphics tests, while some single-thread and productivity measures favored rival systems. Its RTX 4060 also performed strongly in the review’s 1080p gaming tests. Those findings support a qualified yes for creator workloads and moderate gaming, but not a claim that it leads every rival or that its native-resolution gaming performance matches its 1080p results.

The strongest case is for a buyer who wants GPU capability and a high-end Mini-LED display in one creator laptop and is comfortable working near a power source. If long unplugged sessions are central to the purchase, the review’s battery-life warning deserves more weight than the bright panel or benchmark leadership.
